F45 Training Now Open in Potomac

F45 Training, an Australian franchisor and operator of fitness centers based in Austin, Texas, has opened a new  Montgomery County location in Potomac. The fitness center opened at 1087 Seven Locks Rd in Potomac Woods Plaza, taking over the location that was previously home to BB&T bank.

The fitness center recently announced it will open its Olney location on February 25th in the 3,200 SF space that was previously home to Pet Valu in Olney’s Fair Hill Shopping Center (previously Olney Town Center) at 18100 Town Center Drive, Unit 8115. The upcoming Germantown location will open in the 3,299 SF space that was previously home to Da Marco The Italian Place at The Shops at Seneca Meadows shopping center, next to Wegmans and across from Siriwan Thai. Da Marco closed its Germantown location in April of 2020, following 4 years in Germantown. Part of the space is still available for lease and will include the outdoor dining patio for a future restaurant. Two new Bethesda locations are also coming soon.

Students From Seneca Valley and Sherwood Team Up with CAVA to Serve Four-Course Meal; Raise Over $5200

Working with industry leaders, hospitality and restaurant management students at Seneca Valley and Sherwood high schools served a four-course meal at a pop-up restaurant in Potomac on Feb. 3. The school was above to raise over $5,200 from the event (photos available below).

The dinner was an opportunity for the students to experience the variety of activities necessary to stage a sophisticated experience—from social media and ticket sales to front-of-house management and heart-of-house hustle. With a team of chefs from CAVA, the students designed, prepared and served the dinner at the Falls Road Golf Course Café on Friday.

Dan Snyder Puts Potomac Home on the Market; Asking Price Would Be Most Expensive Home Sale in DMV History

Back in November 2021, we reported that the $48 million sale of River View (7979 E. Boulevard Drive in Alexandria, VA)– a 16,000 square foot home with an additional carriage home had set a new record for the most expensive home sale in DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) history. The home was bought buy Montgomery County native and owner of the Washington Commanders, Dan Snyder. Now, with the sale of the Commanders looming, Snyder is selling his Potomac, MD home (named River House) for $49 million, according to a Biz Journals report. This is one million more than he purchased River View for in 2021, and would be the most expensive home sale in DMV history if it sells for asking price or more.

Per the report, River House on River Rd. in Potomac, “spans just over 15 acres and features a 30,000-square-foot French château-inspired home completed in 2004. Snyder bought the majority of the Potomac River-fronting lot, at 11900 River Road, in July 2000 for $8.64 million from the estate of Jordan’s King Hussein and Queen Noor, then expanded with the acquisition of six adjoining parcels.” It is being listed by listed by Heather Corey and Michael Rankin of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty. Police and Family Concerned For Missing 78-Year-Old

Pahwa is approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has thinning salt and pepper hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jacket, gray sweatpants and a black hat.  Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Ten Montgomery County Restaurants Currently Participating in Winter Restaurant Week

Winter Restaurant Week runs from January 16 to January 22, with ten Montgomery County restaurants participating. Founding Farmers, J. Hollinger’s, Lia’s, all three Matchbox locations, Morton’s, Spanish Diner, The Daily Dish, and Dish & Dram will be the participating MoCo restaurants. Per the Metropolitan Restaurant Week website:

Glenstone Museum Offering Free School Visits, Educator Walk-In Visits

Educators can now book free school visits to Glenstone Museum through June. Glenstone offers bus transportation and substitute teacher reimbursement for MCPS guided school visits. The Potomac museum provides opportunities for middle and high school students to learn in an environment that encourages direct connection with art, architecture and nature. Learn more about the options for student visits to Glenstone, including guided, self-guided and virtual engagements. Schedule a school visit here. Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect at the museum.

Educators can also now visit without scheduling in advance; walk up to the arrival hall and present a valid ID card during operating hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Detectives Seek Assistance in Locating Missing 18-Year-Old

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Michael Andrew Yau, a missing 18-year-old from Potomac.

Yau was last seen walking in the area of Riverwood Court, at approximately 6:45 p.m., on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.  Yau is approximately 5-feet, 11-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray top and beige pants. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

9 Year Sentence for Potomac Teen in Parking Garage Armed Carjacking

In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Judge Christopher Fogleman has sentenced defendant, Herbert Randall, 19, of Potomac, to nine years in prison and five years of supervised probation upon release for charges of Armed Carjacking and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence. Randall had pleaded guilty to both counts in November 2022. He used a Privately Manufactured Firearm (PMF) or ‘ghost gun’ in commission of this crime. Judge Fogleman is recommending Randall be admitted to the Patuxent Youthful Offenders Program while incarcerated.

The sentence was handed down yesterday by Judge Fogleman and the breakdown is 25 years suspend all but 9: Count Two- Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence, 10 years suspend all but five years, with credit for 207 days of time-served and five years of supervised probation and on Count One- Armed Carjacking, 15 years consecutive to Count Two suspend all but four years, and five years of supervised probation. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Peter Larson and Daniel Kroepsch. There are three co-defendants which are being processed in juvenile court. This stems from an incident on June 10th, 2022. Summery of events as adapted from court documents can be seen below:

Fire Causes ~$100K in Damage; Displaces Three in Potomac

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the 10400 block of Heathside Way in the Glen Club neighborhood of Potomac for a fire on the second floor of a townhouse at approximately 3pm on Friday.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire extended to the attic but the occupants of the home were able to get out of the home. A cat that was in the home was also able to escape. Per piringer, the fire started when a 2nd floor bathroom fan (vent) caught nearby combustibles on fire. There were no injuries, but approximately $100k in damage (~$75k structural and ~$25k contents). Three adults and the cat have been displaced and the Red Cross is assisting.
