Popular Maryland Restaurant ‘Jimmy’s Famous Seafood’ Now Has Products Available in 197 Weis Market Locations

Since 1974, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood has served the Baltimore community with iconic culinary creations. Founded by the late Dimitrios “Jimmy” Minadakis, the restaurant quickly became synonymous with crab cakes and Maryland seafood in general. Today, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood carries on his vision through his sons, who have grown the business into a nationally known brand, shipping their food across the country. The restaurant’s soups, dips, and crab pretzels are now available through 197 Weis Markets locations. Weis currently has two Montgomery County locations (Damascus and Gaithersburg) with a third on the way in Clarksburg.

Beyond MoCo: Governor Moore Celebrates Revitalization and Reopening of Baltimore’s Historic Lexington Market

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller today joined state and Baltimore City officials, development partners, and business owners to celebrate the newly revitalized and reopened Lexington Market. Today’s ribbon cutting and ceremonial bell ringing marked the opening of a new, 60,000-square-foot market building, public plaza, and the return of more than 40 businesses that will feature a mix of relocated institutions including Faidley’s Seafood and Connie’s Chicken & Waffles and new Baltimore favorites including Tio G’s Empanadas and Taharka Brothers Ice Cream.

“This transformational project shows the power of the state working together with private partners and the City of Baltimore to better serve Marylanders,” said Governor Moore. “The $45 million redevelopment of this Baltimore treasure will keep it in operation for many decades to come so it can continue to be a home to merchants, a gathering place for residents and attraction for visitors to our great state and to the city of Baltimore.”

Drug Kingpin Sentenced for Role in Criminal Organization that Distributed Large Amounts of Fentanyl and Was Responsible for Multiple Overdoses throughout Maryland and Surrounding Areas

The Maryland Attorney General released the following press release on January 26, 2023: Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown today announced the plea and sentencing of Darvin Kevin McCoy, 36, of Odenton, Maryland, on charges including drug kingpin and supervision of a criminal organization, which relate to a long-term investigation into a fentanyl distribution ring that was operating in Howard County, Baltimore City, and Baltimore County.

On January 23, 2023, McCoy pled guilty before Judge Stephanie P. Porter of the Howard County Circuit Court to several charges, including drug kingpin, supervision of a criminal organization, conspiracy to commit robbery, solicitation of robbery, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of a firearm with nexus to a drug trafficking crime, possession of a large amount of fentanyl mixture, and two counts of distribution of fentanyl. The robbery charges pertained to McCoy’s role in the robbery of money, drugs, and jewelry of a co-conspirator as a sanction for transgressions against the criminal organization. McCoy was sentenced to 20 years of incarceration without the possibility of parole.

Per the State of Maryland (1.30.23): Today, Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller joined President Biden and US. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to celebrate the partnership agreement between Amtrak and the Maryland Department of Transportation, and kickoff the B&P Tunnel Replacement Program in Baltimore. The project will replace the 150-year-old infrastructure and improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of Maryland’s rail transportation system; saving over seven hours of train delays every weekday.

“Modernizing the Frederick Douglass Tunnel will bring new opportunities into our communities, and help secure Maryland’s transportation future,” said Governor Moore. “This project stands as more evidence of our commitment to transform transit throughout the state, and we are grateful to have the support of the Biden-Harris administration.

Two Adults and Two Children Struck by Vehicle Monday Morning in Adelphi; MCFRS Assist

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MFCRS) assisted Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue in responding to a collision on Buck Lodge Road and Riggs Road in Adelphi, MD on Monday morning. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, four patients were transported to the hospital, including two children with Priority 2 trauma, one adult with Priority 1 trauma, and one adult with Priority 2 trauma. We will post an update when additional information becomes available.

“Fire in Ice” returns to Downtown Frederick on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. The event features live ice carving demonstrations, food trucks, scavenger hunts, and “pyrophoric fire performances”. According to the Downtown Frederick Partnership, “Each February First Saturday, Downtown Frederick is transformed into a winter wonderland! This year, visitors can explore more than 120 unique ice sculptures, which will be on display all over downtown from 11AM-9PM.”

Per Frederick County Police: Thousands of spectators are expected for the annual Fire in Ice event next weekend. The event hosted by the Downtown Frederick Partnership will be held Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4. The Frederick Police Department would like to remind residents, commuters and visitors to prepare for traffic changes in the area. The following traffic changes were made as increased safety measures for pedestrians and to reduce the number of vehicles downtown during event hours and will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4 only:

Beyond MoCo: Nine Members and Associates of a West Baltimore Drug Trafficking Organization Known as “Wick Squad” Are Indicted

In April 2022, the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) began a joint investigation into the members and associates of a drugtrafficking organization known as “Wick Squad,” which operated in and around the 2500 block of Edmondson Avenue in West Baltimore. The investigation utilized a variety of investigative methods, including the use of undercover BPD detectives to make controlled purchases of narcotics, including Fentanyl. The investigation culminated in search warrants and arrests in October 2022. The most recent arrest took place in January 2023. In total, the investigation led to the seizure of 11 firearms and large amounts of controlled dangerous substances (CDS), ammunition, and packaging material.

On December 6, 2022, Arthur Beard, 29, of Baltimore, pled guilty before the Honorable Kendra Y. Ausby of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City to loaded handgun on person and possession of CDS. Beard was sentenced to four years of incarceration, suspending all but three years. Upon his release from incarceration, he will be on two years of supervised probation.

Beyond MoCo: Man Shot by Police in Frederick After Reports of Shots Fired Inside Residence

Per the Frederick Police Department: On Jan. 23, 2023, approximately 12:34 a.m., officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to a report of a man firing shots inside his residence in the 2600 block of Monocacy Ford Road. Additional information indicated that the man’s wife was still inside the residence, hiding in a closet. Upon arrival at the scene, officers established a perimeter and were able to see a man holding a gun through a window. A short time later, the man began firing his weapon again. Officers made immediate entry and one FPD officer discharged his weapon, striking the male. Officers immediately began rendering aid and EMS was called to the scene.

The male was transported to a local trauma center for treatment where his injuries were not considered life threatening at the time of this release. One officer sustained a minor hand injury while attempting to make entry into the residence and no bystanders were injured in this incident. The officer who discharged his weapon will be named at a later date and has been placed on administrative duties pending an investigation. This remains an open and active investigation. Maryland State Police will conduct the investigation into the officer’s use of force in conjunction with FPD’s Professional Services Division.
