If you are a fan of brisket sandwiches and famously clean restrooms, the growing number of “coming soon” Buc-ee’s signs across Virginia are both exciting and a little frustrating. While the Commonwealth officially joined the Buc-ee’s family in June 2025 with the opening of the Rockingham County location, two more massive Virginia sites are in the works, each with very different timelines and challenges. Once completed, these will be the Buc-ee’s locations closest to the Washington DC region.

White’s Ferry, a historic Potomac River crossing between Montgomery County, Maryland, and Loudoun County, Virginia, has remained closed since December 28, 2020, due to an unresolved dispute over landing rights on the Virginia side of the river.

On Saturday evening, Dawes confirmed that Thompson has died, sharing a message of gratitude and remembrance following days of public appeals for help locating him.

Dominique Dawes shared a tragic update Saturday evening, confirming that her father-in-law, Leonard Thompson, has died. “We take comfort in knowing that he is now with our Lord and Savior,” Dawes wrote. “Thank you all for the prayers and support during this very difficult time. Our last moment with him was accompanying him at mass and giving him a hug and my husband and I said, ‘Get home safely’… Rest in Peace, Papa T.”
