On the evening of Sunday, March 22, 1992, a customer at Sugarloaf Mountain Market, located at 23800 Old Hundred Road in Comus, found the owner, 57-year-old James Essel, deceased inside the store– having been stabbed multiple times. Twenty-eight years later, in February 2020, the man whose DNA linked him to the murder was killed by Virginia Beach Police.

Construction is nearly complete as Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s will open next month in Rockingham County, VA (Mount Crawford). It will be located at the exit 240 interchange on Interstate 81 near Harrisonburg– just over 125 miles and roughly two hours from most parts of Montgomery County. A Maryland man has been sentenced to over 10 years in federal prison for cocaine distribution after authorities uncovered his role as a leader in a drug trafficking ring that used a Hagerstown appliance store as a hub for selling fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. (more…)

Governor Wes Moore announced that SJ Incorporation will open a manufacturing facility in Cascade, Maryland, expected to create 300 jobs over the next four years. The company will produce medical products at the site, located at the redeveloped Fort Ritchie.
