Rockville-based DSFederal, Inc., a government focused leader in data science and digital solutions located at 6100 Executive Blvd, announced the appointment of Clement Chen as its new chief executive officer. He will join Sophia Parker in leading the company’s next phase of transformation and growth. Parker will remain as chairwoman of the company. Rockville-based Supernus Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company, located at 9715 Key W Ave, and focused on developing and commercializing products for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) diseases, announced it entered into a credit line agreement (the “Credit Line”) with UBS Bank USA (“UBS”) providing the Company an uncommitted demand secured line of credit of up to $150 million, which can be drawn at any time.

Any fixed rate borrowing will bear interest at a fixed interest rate, equal to the sum of the UBS Fixed Funding Rate plus the applicable Percentage Spread established in the Credit Line. Any variable rate borrowing will bear interest at a variable interest rate, equal to the sum of the UBS Variable Rate plus the applicable Percentage Spread established in the Credit Line.


If approved by the FDA, NARCAN Nasal Spray will be the first 4 mg naloxone nasal spray switched from prescription status to over-the-counter use

Gaithersburg-based Emergent BioSolutions announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee and the Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committeehave unanimously voted in favor (a total of 19 votes) that the benefit-risk profile of NARCAN®(naloxone HCl) Nasal Spray is supportive of its use as a nonprescription opioid overdose reversal agent. Emergent presented an overview of its over-the-counter (OTC) development program, the medical need, Human Factors study data and seven years of post-marketing safety data. The FDA is not bound by the committees’ guidance but will take its advice into consideration.


Boston-based WinnCompanies has acquired the Villages of Gaithersburg apartment complex, located on School Drive next to the Shady Grove Village development for $28 million. The 9.5 acre property also features a pool, playground, and picnic area. The property was built in 1974 and has four stories with 168 total units. The property previously purchased by the Read Property Group in 2015 for $20.1 million.

Oaks at Olde Towne in Gaithersburg (Chestnut St.), Fireside Apartments in Rockville (Monroe Street), and The Residences at Thayer Ave in Silver Spring (Thayer Ave). Vector BioMed, a Gaithersburg-based (910 Clopper Rd Suite 200S) biomanufacturing company specializing in the manufacture of lentiviral vectors, today announced its launch and first financing round led by Viking Global Investors and Casdin Capital. The funds will support the acceleration of commercial operations to provide rapid access to high-quality lentiviral vectors for pre-clinical development, clinical trials, and commercialization. Viral vectors are engineered viruses used to deliver gene therapies and gene-modified cell therapies as well as certain vaccines. In contrast to traditional contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), “Vector BioMed is a solution provider that will provide partners with the capabilities to take their lentiviral vector-based medicinal concepts into the clinic and accelerate their path to commercialization. Vector BioMed will help address the industry’s current vector supply bottleneck by providing lentiviral vectors at scale, while also offering turnkey solutions for vector design and optimization, pre-clinical manufacturing, GMP manufacturing, and other support services.”

Per the press release: In conjunction with the funding and launch, co-founder Boro Dropulić, Ph.D., MBA has been named Chief Executive Officer of Vector BioMed. Dr. Dropulić brings more than 30 years of leadership and experience in the design, development, manufacturing, clinical translation, regulatory, clinical implementation, and commercialization of Lentiviral vector technology. Among his career accomplishments, Dr. Dropulić led the team that first demonstrated the safety of lentiviral vectors in humans with his colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania. Later he founded Lentigen, which developed the lentiviral vector used to produce Kymriah™, the first FDA-approved gene therapy product. He implemented and directed the company’s highly profitable CDMO business model and therapeutic pipeline of gene therapy products. Dr. Dropulić is also a co-founder and Executive Director of Caring Cross, a non-profit dedicated to accelerating the development of advanced medicines and enabling access to cures for all patients.


The Montgomery Village Center, located at 19142 Montgomery Village Avenue, has been sold for $40.25 million according to a report by Maryland Newsletters. Per the report, “Atlantic remained in the deal as the 131,000 square foot center traded from a partnership that included Walton Street Capital and Atlantic, to a new one, headed by Petroleum Marketing Group and, again, Atlantic. The new owners paid $40,250,000.” The shopping center was built in 1969 and is currently undergoing a $20 million renovation. It’s anchored by Aldi and Big Lots, and is home to Ledo Pizza, a recently opened Starbucks, Dollar tree, Advanced Auto parts, and more. Below you’ll find a list of all businesses that are scheduled to open in the shopping center soon:

Baskin Robins: Back in January, @themocosource reached out to let us know that Baskin Robbins would be coming to the Montgomery Village Shopping Center and last month we were able to get confirmation from klnb that the ice cream shop will be coming to the vacant space next to Suburban Hair and Linda’s Nails. No opening date has been announced.


The Olney Professional Building, a a three-story, 20,000 sq ft commercial property located at 17904 Georgia Ave in Olney,  will undergo energy efficiency renovations using tailored financing from the Green Bank and Sandy Spring Bank. The energy efficiency upgrades include HVAC, building envelope, roof, insulation, and windows (including design and contingency). The funding will also include renovations for the elevator, asphalt, landscaping, storm drain, curbs, and a parking lot. These energy conservation measures will result in 29,328 kWh in energy savings and $7,000 in annual savings for the building.

The Green Bank—in partnership with Sandy Spring Bank—provided structured financing with a 12-month draw period followed by P&I payments based on a 10-year fully amortizing loan. Due to the Montgomery County Green Bank’s participation, the Olney Professional Building received a blended interest rate on the loan for $2.9 million.


Seneca Village Apartments is a 58-building, 684-unit affordable multifamily property located at 750 Clopper Rd. in Gaithersburg. It was originally constructed in 1973 and sits on 40 acres of land. With funding from the Green Bank, in partnership with Virginia Community Capital and NYCEEC, Seneca Village Apartments will install new energy-efficient roofs with reflective coating and a 2.18 MW rooftop solar array by Patuxent and Solar Energy Services.  The $11.4 million project is the largest rooftop solar project on a multifamily property in the Montgomery County. The property will save 2,583,535 kWh in energy savings and over $300,000 in annual savings.

This project situated in an Equity Emphasis Area and on an affordable housing property is such an example,” says Tom Deyo, CEO of Montgomery County Green Bank. “Further, this collaboration with Virginia Community Capital and NYCEEC is the perfect depiction of how the Montgomery County Green Bank leverages capital and innovative partnerships to facilitate clean energy projects in the County.”


Edge, a full-service commercial real estate firm with offices in Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania brokered the sale of 12101 Tech Road, a 58,280 square foot flex/office building located in the Silver Spring section of Montgomery County, Maryland for over $12.8 million in mid 2022. 12101 Tech Road features 22-foot ceiling heights and a free, surface parking lot that can accommodate more than 100 vehicles. The premises also features multiple loading docks and is home to a total of three tenants making the property 100% leased at the time of the sale. Kingdom Fellowship Church, which occupied over 40,000 square feet, was expected to vacate later in the year.

The asset is in close proximity to MD Route 200 (Intercounty Connector), Interstate 95, and Interstate 495. The property is also within walking distance to the upcoming White Oak Town Center Development, WesTech Village Corner, and minutes away from Orchard Center, which offers numerous sit-down and fast-casual restaurants, shopping, and hotel options. The property is also conveniently located close to Adventist Healthcare White Oak Medical Center. “Acquiring assets of this size in the Montgomery County submarket has become increasingly difficult, given the lack of available properties for purchase, combined with the large volume of investors seeking investments in the Washington, D.C. suburbs.”, stated Robert Pugh of Edge. “The new owner acquired a high-quality and well-maintained asset that will easily support its business operations, which makes this an extremely sound business decision on many levels,” stated Kenneth Fellows of Edge.


A joint venture of CP Capital, a highly disciplined U.S. real estate manager specializing in multifamily investments, and The NRP Group, a leading real estate development, construction, and property management firm, today announced they will be developing ‘White Oak’ – a 390-unit, wrap-style and townhome multifamily development project. The multifamily community is situated in Eastern Montgomery County, part of the White Oak Science Gateway area. White Oak is a centrally located suburban neighborhood that is well connected to the broader Maryland and Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, with direct access to Montgomery County’s new FLASH Bus Rapid Transit System, MD Route 29, I-95, and the MD-200 Intercounty Connector. The site is also a short commute to Downtown Silver Spring with connection points to Metro’s Red Line and the to-be-built Purple Line. The project is expected to break ground in the first quarter of 2023. On January 20 ‘Give a Hoot’ comedy club, the first ever full-time comedy club in Montgomery County, will launch at La Mexicana in Gaithersburg with a twofold mission: to show patrons a great time, and to give back to the local community. According to the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce, ‘Give a Hoot’ will give 50% of its proceeds to local charities. In addition to comedy shows, the club will also feature murder mystery and hypnotist acts.
