Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police -2nd District Investigative Section are investigating a theft that occurred at Cubano’s Restaurant in the 4900 block of Cordell Avenue on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Detectives have released surveillance video of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that the suspect entered the restaurant at approximately 8 p.m. The suspect immediately walked to the back of the restaurant, grabbed the victim’s purse that was hanging on a rack and entered the bathroom. The purse was later located inside the bathroom by a customer but was missing cash, personal items and property.  The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 30-years-old, thin build, wearing a gray t-shirt.


According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s office, “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable John Maloney, a jury found defendant, Leaundra Matthews, 25, of Accokeek, guilty of second-degree murder for the death of Christian Matthews, her 17-year-old brother. Christian Matthews was fatally strangled during an attack by the defendant’s boyfriend and another co-defendant while he was asleep inside the family’s Silver Spring home in the early morning hours of March 21, 2017.

Leaundra Matthews faces up to 30 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 19, 2024 at 2 p.m. In January of 2019, a jury convicted Leaundra’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Tysean Lipford, on a charge of second-degree murder for the death of Christian Matthews. He was sentenced in June of 2019 to 30 years in prison and is currently serving that sentence. Daniel Howard is the other codefendant facing murder charges. His trial is scheduled for April 2024. In addition, Leaundra’s twin sister, Lemae Matthews, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder in October of 2021 and will be sentenced following the conclusion of Howard’s April 2024 trial.”


On August 29 at approximately 11:12 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Sunoco) for an assault that had just occurred. According to Takoma Park Police:

“Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim drove his vehicle into the Sunoco gas station parking lot to the air pump area. The victim noticed a vehicle drive up behind his and saw two masked suspects exit the vehicle with guns drawn.  The victim produced a legally owned firearm and a shooting occurred. The suspects fled the area.


Per MCPD: Sawsan Al Hadidi of Rockville has been charged with obstruction of justice and bribery after she allegedly attempted to bribe a Montgomery County Child Welfare Services (CWS) employee. The 42-year-old is accused of attempting to pay off an Assessment Social Worker, who had been assigned to investigate claims of sexual abuse against a child, which had been initiated by Al Hadidi.

The CWS employee reported that on Wednesday, July 26, Al Hadidi stated she had a gift for the investigator and presented a large amount of cash. The investigator refused the money and reported the incident. A warrant was requested and Al Hadidi was issued a summons to appear in court.


Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland– U.S. District Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher today sentenced Clayton Alexander McCoy, age 32, of Chesterland, Ohio, to 262 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for transporting explosives with intent to injure and to possession of an unregistered firearm/explosive device, in connection with an explosion at a home in Carroll County, Maryland.  A resident of the home was the boyfriend of a woman in whom McCoy had a romantic interest.  Judge Gallagher also ordered that McCoy pay restitution in the full amount of the loss, which is at least $96,378.38.

According to his guilty plea and court documents, McCoy built a bomb in his home in Ohio, then drove the bomb to Victim 1’s home in Carroll County, Maryland, intending to kill the victim.  McCoy knew the victim and a woman, who was Victim 1’s girlfriend, for a number of years through a live action role-playing battle game/social club.  In October 2020 McCoy expressed romantic feelings for the woman, who informed McCoy that she was in a relationship with Victim 1 and did not share McCoy’s romantic feelings.


At approximately 7:39 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers responded to an apartment in the 12500 block of Winexburg Manor Drive in Glenmont for the report of a stabbing/assault.

According to police, “The preliminary investigation has revealed that there was a domestic dispute between a husband (adult male) and a wife (adult female) as well a family member (adult male). The husband cut his wife on her arm and cut the family member in the face with a knife. The family member punched the husband in the face.


Per MCPD: 41-year-old Steven Michael Blank, of Damascus, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of vandalism and resisting arrest, for allegedly vandalizing two marked Montgomery County Police cruisers in Damascus.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023, at approximately 7:32 p.m., 5th District officers responded to the 10200 block of Lewis Dr. for the report of a vandalism.


According to the Rockville City Police, “at approximately 10:20 p.m. on August 28, 2023, Rockville City Police responded to the 700 block of Rockville Pike for a report of an assault. Through the course of our initial investigation, several juveniles, known to each other, met at an undisclosed location and engaged in mutual combative behavior which resulted in one of the juveniles being stabbed several times. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.”

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred on Monday, August 29, 2023, at Topgolf in the 20100 block of Century Blvd. in Germantown.

At approximately 12:06 a.m., 5th District officers responded to the location for the report of a shooting. The investigation has revealed that an unknown male suspect allegedly shot two male employees following an altercation. The 18-year-old male victim was shot in the lower body and the 23-year-old male victim was shot in the upper body. The suspect then drove away in an unknown vehicle. The victims were transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.


On August 29, at approximately 3:04 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 1300 block of University Boulevard (7-11) for an armed robbery that had just occurred.

According to Takoma Park Police, store surveillance video revealed that at approximately 2:55 am, an unknown Hispanic male suspect without a shirt on, wearing dark-colored pants/sweats, white sneakers, a black ski mask, and carrying a coral-colored shirt entered the 7-11, grabbed merchandise, and went to the register as if attempting to pay for the items.  At this point, another unknown Hispanic male suspect entered the 7-11, wearing a dark-colored hoodie, light gray pants, gray shoes, and black ski mask, carrying a black handgun, pointed the gun at the cashier, and demanded money.  The victim complied and the first suspect who entered the 7-11 grabbed the cashier tray and both suspects fled the 7-11 in an unknown direction; unknown if it was on foot or in a vehicle.


Shortly after midnight on Tuesday (12:06am), Montgomery County Police responded to a report of a shooting at Top Golf in Germantown (20101 Century Blvd). Police say, “On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at approximately 12:06 a.m., MCP officers responded to Top Golf in the 20100 block of Century Blvd. in Germantown for the report of a shooting.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an unknow suspect fired his firearm for reasons that are still under investigation, and two Top Golf employees (adult males) were shot. One was shot in the leg and the other one in the torso area. Both victims were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect left the scene in an unknown vehicle.”
