Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Washington Dulles International Airport intercepted 23 pounds of marijuana in the checked luggage of Octavious Lamar Dozier, 27, of Atlanta, on August 5, leading to his arrest by Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police. This was the second such arrest in three days at Dulles, as authorities report an ongoing trend of attempts to smuggle marijuana to Europe where it commands higher profits. (more…)

Montgomery County Police 3rd District officers are investigating a reported carjacking in the 13600 block of Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill.
U.S. District Court Judge Deborah L. Boardman sentenced Mikiyas Kefyalew, 27, of Silver Spring, Maryland, to eight years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing fentanyl that resulted in the death of a Bethesda, Maryland, minor in January 2022.

On August 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., deputies of the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff, assigned to the 4H Fair in Centreville, MD, were alerted to an attempted kidnapping. The Sheriff’s Office and QAC Fair Board emergency response plan was immediately activated, and deputies quickly saturated the area.
MCPD is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night in Fairland in which a teenage male was shot in the thigh while walking on a footpath, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, Maryland Governor Wes Moore criticized President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard for municipal policing in Washington, D.C., calling it dangerous and politically motivated, and contrasted it with Maryland’s recent decline in violent crime.
