Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott have filed a lawsuit against Glock, Inc., alleging the company facilitates the spread of illegal machine guns in Maryland by selling pistols that can easily be modified with “Glock switches.” The lawsuit, the first under Maryland’s new Gun Industry Accountability Act, seeks to halt sales of these firearms, citing their role in escalating gun violence, particularly among Baltimore’s youth. On Monday, the Justice Department unsealed criminal charges against Igor Lira, 40, a Slovakia national, for allegedly transmitting a threat in interstate or international commerce containing a threat to injure. Lira made his initial appearance in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland Monday after he was extradited from Germany.

Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Montgomery County Division) announced that on January 23, 2025, they responded to a crash on Beach Drive and Cedar Lane, where the driver was found in possession of a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine and charged with DUI, possession of CDS, and intent to distribute. A Washington, D.C. man was convicted in Montgomery County Circuit Court of first-degree child abuse resulting in death and second-degree murder for the abuse and death of his girlfriend’s 16-month-old son, with sentencing scheduled for June 13, 2025, where he faces life in prison plus 65 years.
