Fire Investigators along with investigators from a private insurance company recently excavated the area on Granby Court in Derwood where a fire at a single family home destroyed a home last month while the occupants of the home were out of town.
The investigators were able to recover evidence from the scene and determine that the fire resulted from a lightning strike, causing approximately $1 million in damages.

A fire at approximately 2:15am this morning required approximately 85 firefighters.

A fire at the Mallard Cove complex on Needwood Rd in Derwood caused approximately $125k in damages this morning.
Feasty Crab to Take Over Red Hot & Blue Location in Derwood
Red Hot & Blue closed permanently back in July of 2019 after serving the Derwood area for 30 years. After almost two years of inactivity, signage was recently put up for the restaurant that will be taking over the location– Feasty Crab.
In early May, Montgomery County Department of Transportation contractors will close the Mill Run Drive Pedestrian Tunnel under Shady Grove Road for approximately two weeks.
During this closure, contractors will repair and repaint the ceiling, walls, and railings in the tunnel. Crews will also complete lighting repairs. The contractor for this project is Burtonsville-based Colossal Contractors Inc.

This Sunday the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) and Montgomery County Partners for Animal Well-Being (MCPAW) will be hosting a drive-thru cat food giveaway at the MCASAC building located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Rd in Derwood from 9-11AM.
