Sweet Block will offer tropical desserts along with traditional treats only found in the streets of various Latin countries. The “one stop dessert shop” will feature Latin food, art, and culture from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Peru. Some of the menu items include Mangonadas, Esquites (corn in a cup), in-house ice cream, carved/prepared fruits, and juices/smoothies.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for smoke inside of Maiwand Grill, a popular restaurant serving Afghan cuisine in Burtonsville for approximately 20 years, on Monday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, there was no smoke or fire evident from outside of the restaurant upon arrival. The small fire, likely on the stove top, was quickly controlled and extinguished and there were no injuries. Units checked the exhaust systems and the restaurant is not likely to close for any period of time stemming from the small fire.


At 11:00 AM, local Dunkin’ franchisee Jesse Luis of the Luis Group will host the store’s official ribbon cutting alongside the local community. The new Next Gen restaurant offers Silver Spring a first-hand look at Dunkin’s enhanced store experience, with a modern look that provides a fresh, friendly, vibrant, and engaging environment.

Lindsey and Ronnie Curley’s son, Finn, was diagnosed with SELENON/SEPN1 Related Myopathy at 14 months old, on November 18, 2020.  Due to how rare the genetic disorder is, the family has decided to launch a non-profit, Giving Strength Inc., to support research and treatment for SELENON related myopathy.

A suspect has been identified in an attempted robbery of another person that occurred at the Chick-fil-A in the 12000 block of Tech Road. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section, are investigating an attempted robbery of a person that occurred at the Chick-fil-A in the 12000 block of Tech Road. On Saturday, March 26, 2022, at approximately 8 a.m., 3rd District Officers responded to the location for the report of a robbery that just occurred.  The investigation determined that the suspect entered the Chick-fil-A and snatched the victim’s purse inside the restaurant.


Update: Montgomery County Police announced at 9:28am that barricade situation on Castle Boulevard has been safely resolved. The adult male is in custody and the shelter in place has been lifted.

Montgomery County Police (5:46am): MCPD is asking for residents in the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard and all of Castle Ridge Cir. to shelter in place.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a fire at the Kohl’s department store at 12024 Cherry Hill Rd in Calverton on Tuesday afternoon. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire began as a brush fire that then extended to the façade of the building.  The cause of the fire was likely improperly discarded smoking materials (cigarette butt) and damages are estimated to be around $50,000.   The building was evacuated and there were no injuries reported.

Around 75 Montgomery County firefighters responded to a garage fire that extended into a home on the 12600 block of Davan Drive in Colesville on Monday morning around 1:45am.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, sleeping residents were alerted to smoke in the home by their Google NEST ‘smart’ device (originally reported to be an Amazon Alexa). Upon awakening, they tracked smoke to the attached garage and attempted to enter to investigate, but were pushed back by smoke and heat.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. .at Paint Branch High School, with the line of march ending at the Praisner Center.

At the festival, there will be food trucks and vendors representing a variety of hometown favorites, international cuisines, craft, and exhibitors. Games and fun activities for all ages will be part of the activities. Two stages will provide continuous live performances of music, dance, and martial arts.
