Viva White Oak Developers Say They Are Close to Beginning Construction
Biz Journal is reporting that the developers of the $3 billion, 12 million-square-feet Viva White Oak project say that they are almost ready to begin construction on the 300-acre project.
Signage has been installed at 24B Vital Way in Silver Spring (Colesville) for carry out / delivery only restaurant Sweet Block. Sweet Block will offer tropical desserts along with traditional treats only found in the streets of various Latin countries.
The owners tell us that they are looking to open this fall and that the one stop dessert shop will feature Latin food, art, and culture from various countries such as Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Peru.
9/18 Update: The Briggs Chaney Popeyes is Now Open
Back in November 2020 we let you know that Popeyes will be taking over the old Pizza Hut location in the Briggs Chaney shopping center (13886 Old Columbia Pike).
Tropical Smoothie Cafe has made a splash in MoCo in the last couple years.
A new location is under construction at 12263 Tech Road, the former Verizon location in the Shops at White Oak shopping center. Signage has been up for some time, but the interior construction is just getting started.

November 13 Update:
Woodlands Pure Vegetarian Indian Cuisine is now open at 555 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg. The restaurant specializes in South Indian dishes such as doasi, uthappam, and curries.
George Lopez has joined the trend of celebrities teaming up with ghost kitchens with his newest venture, George Lopez Tacos.
The virtual restaurant is now available on delivery apps and is delivering food from The Greene Turtle in Burtonsville. Delivery ranges vary, but depending on the app can cover places as far as parts of Rockville and Gaithersburg.
Fryer‘s Roadside at 12830 New Hampshire Ave (former location of Chopaan Kabob House) in the Meadowood Shopping Center is now open. The restaurant offers farm-fresh fried chicken, hand-cut fries, coleslaw, fried rice, soft-serve ice cream, and snowballs.
We spoke with owner Steve Englehardt back in the spring and he told us their sauces will all be made in-house and will feature mumbo sauce, a Memphis style hot sauce, and habanero sauce with the habanero and jalapeño peppers grown in the garden behind the restaurant.All of their rolls come from nearby, and locally legendary, Woodmoor Bakery. Hours of operation will be 11am-9pm daily. The menu can be seen below:
The Party Place has opened its second location, officially opening its Burtonsville location earlier this week.
The store is located at 15632 Old Columbia Pike in the Burtonsville Town Center next to the newly opened Tobacco Hut.
After being forced to cancel the parade last year due to the pandemic, Burtonsville Day will be returning this year on September 25th (rain or shine).
The annual celebration includes food trucks/vendors, activities for children, a parade, live music & performances, public services, and other attractions.
