The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is inviting prospective students and guests to learn more about the USG campus and the variety of degree programs offered by its university partners at USG’s spring 2024 Undergraduate and Graduate Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
The 3rd annual Youth Climate Summit was held earlier this month at Tilden Middle School. Dozens of secondary students gathered to learn about climate change, how they could grow as environmental activists and how they could create projects in their communities.
MCPS will be livestreaming its Champions for Children Event on May 1 that will announce the winners of the school system’s Teacher of the Year and Supporting Services Employee of the Year awards while recognizing the winners of other awards.

John F. Kennedy High School entered into a shelter-in-place on Friday, April 19, after an incident involving a trespasser with a knife.
A group of MCPS students have come together to spread awareness about the impact of bullying, harassment and hate-bias. This student-led video campaign is part of the ongoing work to address and help educate their peers and the school community. Full video below.
Walter Johnson Assistant Football Coach Larry Hurd Sr. will be accepting the John W. Voight Award on April 27th at the Gossett Team House within the University of Maryland College Park Campus. Coach Hurd Sr. is being recognized for his over 40 years of service to the State of Maryland as an assistant coaching football.
