As of 9:30am on Monday, November 7th, Aboth parties have agreed to withdraw their unfair labor practice filings due to this agreement.

Per MCPS: On Friday evening, MCPS reached an agreement with the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) on ground rules for their upcoming contract negotiations. Importantly, both parties have determined there will be 12 initial bargaining sessions that are open for unit members to attend either in-person or via Zoom. The first session will be held in the evening on November 10, 2022.

Applications for the 2023-2024 State Student Member on the Board of Education (SMOB) are now open:

This important public official position requires a nomination by the student’s school, and the student must be regularly enrolled in a public high school, in good standing, and a junior or senior as of July 1, 2023 (meaning they are a current sophomore or junior). The school nomination is due by 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2022.

Eighth graders who are interested in special programs offered in several high schools must apply by Friday, November 11th (deadline extended from November 4th). These programs start in the 9th grade, but students need to apply now. Students can see all their options in StudentVUE. Applications must be submitted through ParentVUE by the deadline. Grade 8 High School Regional and Countywide Programs Timeline

MCPS is asking the community to share its input for next year’s school calendar. This quick survey seeks to gauge the community’s opinions on the calendar scenarios developed for the 2023–2024 school year. Staff will use your feedback to develop a final recommendation to be presented at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Nominations are now open for the 2023 Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision. Given annually to recognize an outstanding administrator or supervisor of MCPS, eligible nominees include principals, assistant principals, school business administrators, directors, supervisors and other administrator and supervisory positions within the MCAAP/MCBOA unit.

Nominations can be submitted by MCPS staff, colleagues, friends, parents and community members. Self-nominations will also be accepted. The nomination deadline is 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023. The award is presented by the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP).
