Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) welcomes nearly 160,000 students today (Aug. 30) for the start of the 2021–2022 school year. MCPS is beginning the school year fully in-person, five days a week and implementing an online Virtual Academy for registered students in grades K through 12. The 2021-2022 Reopening Guide, released on August 13, outlines the precautions in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19, as well as what to expect for curriculum, grading, attendance, assessments and student engagement.
MCPS is welcoming more than 874 new teachers, more than 671 new supporting services professionals and 31 new administrators this school year.
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will celebrate the start of the 2021-2022 school year with a media event TOMORROW, Monday, Aug. 30, 2021 at the new Seneca Valley High School building, 19401 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. Interim Superintendent Monifa B. McKnight and Montgomery County Board of Education President Brenda Wolff will join other local and state officials at the event.
Nearly 160,000 students are expected for the first day of school. The event will highlight the school and its innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, MCPS’ reopening plans, and strategic priorities for the school year.

Quince Orchard High School sent out a community notification today updating students, staff, and families on the recent Covid-19 cases at the school.
According to the notification, the school was notified of six additional positive Covid-19 cases, which brings the total number of cases at the school to 26.
The Board of Education will hold its business meeting (in-person) on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Closed session will begin at 9 a.m. Public agenda items will begin at 12 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 34, Verizon Channel 36, and RCN channel 89.
The Board will resume in-person testimony at its August 24 business meeting, but will continue to accept pre-recorded audio or video testimony through their website.

Quince Orchard High School Pauses Football Program Due to COVID-19 Outbreak
Quince Orchard High School is suspending it’s football program after six individuals at the high school have tested positve for COVID-19.

During the meeting, the Board received an update on fall reopening; took action on two charter school applications; made several administrative appointments; and took action on previous new business items.
