Afshan Mizrahi is a published children’s author from Montgomery County. The book she published, Fairyland Horror, was written while she attended Mill Creek Towne Elementary School, an MCPS school in Derwood.
While in 5th grade, Afshan had a creative writing assignment where she needed to write a short story and draw pictures. It was then that Fairyland Horror came to life.
MCPS Launches COVID-19 Dashboard for School Reopening Benchmarks
MCPS previously developed and released a health metrics grid for a phased-in return to in-person instruction. The grid is aligned with CDC guidelines and was developed in consultation with Montgomery County health officials.
Col. E. Brooke Middle School to be Renamed Odessa Shannon Middle School
The Montgomery County Board of Education has voted to rename Col. E. Brooke Lee Middle School to Odessa Shannon Middle School.

Kate Siegel, popular for her roles in horror films like Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, and the new Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor, is from Montgomery County.
MCPS Pre-K and Head Start Offices Accepting Donations of Winter Clothing for Low Income Students
Per MCPS: The Prekindergarten and Head Start offices are accepting donations of new coats for low income students. Hats, gloves and scarves are also needed. Coats for boys and girls in sizes 5, 6, 6x and 7 can be ordered online and delivered by mail/UPS to:

MCPS Provides Update Regarding Health Insurance Premiums in 2021
This afternoon, MCPS staff received an email update about the premiums for their health insurance. This email has been circulating throughout local Facebook groups as well as other social media platforms. The email mentions that rising costs are due to “expenses related to testing, treatment and care of COVID-19, and a general trend of increase in the cost of care, among other things.”
