The Montgomery County Board of Education (Board) held a business meeting on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Amendment to the 2022-2023 School Year Calendar: The Board voted to amend the 2022-2023 traditional and innovative school year calendars to make Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30, 2022, as well as Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6, 2023, systemwide closure days for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).Read the memorandum to the Board. Antiracist System Audit Final Report: The Board received a public presentation of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Antiracist System Audit final report by independent auditors, Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. The report confirmed that MCPS has many elements needed to eliminate racial disparities for students, families and staff; however, the study calls on MCPS to develop a clear, systemwide comprehensive approach to achieve an antiracist school system.


Edited to clarify the Clarksburg score was the highest in school history

The marching bands from Clarksburg High School and Quince Orchard High School have plenty to celebrate as both schools brought back State Championships from the Maryland Marching Band Association’s competition in Towson on November 6th. The Clarksburg High School marching band, “The Spirit of Clarksburg”, received the highest score in the history of the school (91.0) on its way to winning the 3A State Championship. The school also won awards for Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, Best Visual, and Best Overall Effect. The band was undefeated in all competitions this year.

As of 9:30am on Monday, November 7th, Aboth parties have agreed to withdraw their unfair labor practice filings due to this agreement.

Per MCPS: On Friday evening, MCPS reached an agreement with the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) on ground rules for their upcoming contract negotiations. Importantly, both parties have determined there will be 12 initial bargaining sessions that are open for unit members to attend either in-person or via Zoom. The first session will be held in the evening on November 10, 2022.

This important public official position requires a nomination by the student’s school, and the student must be regularly enrolled in a public high school, in good standing, and a junior or senior as of July 1, 2023 (meaning they are a current sophomore or junior). The school nomination is due by 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2022.

Eighth graders who are interested in special programs offered in several high schools must apply by Friday, November 11th (deadline extended from November 4th). These programs start in the 9th grade, but students need to apply now. Students can see all their options in StudentVUE. Applications must be submitted through ParentVUE by the deadline.
