Rachel Carson Elementary School (RCES) hosted its first Turkey Trot to boost student attendance and mitigate chronic absenteeism on the day before Thanksgiving break. The school also utilized the event as an opportunity to collect canned food for the community of Hope at Seneca Creek Church. A video of the event can be seen below.

The 24th Annual After School Dance Fund (ASDF) Baila4Life Latin Dance Competition showcased an extraordinary array of talent and enthusiasm as hundreds of students from Montgomery County gathered at The Music Center at Strathmore for a vibrant celebration of dance on November 25.

The Clarksburg High School Ambassadors leadership club raised over $2,000 to provide 60 Thanksgiving dinners for families in need at Clarksburg High School and Rocky Hill Middle School. The 60-member club collected donations throughout October and November, allowing the schools to identify 60 families who could benefit from additional support during the Thanksgiving holiday. Melissa Curtis, 32, of Upper Marlboro, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, suspending all but 12 months, and five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to three counts of third-degree sex offense for abusing a 14-year-old student while teaching at Montgomery Village Middle School in 2015. Sarah Katherine Magid, a first-grade teacher from Burtonsville, has been charged with distributing fentanyl that led to a victim’s death. Evidence includes text messages between Magid and the victim and reports of drug sales during school hours, with potential sentencing ranging from 20 years to life if convicted.
