Lisa Loeb was born in Bethesda and lived here for a couple years before moving to Dallas, TX where she was raised. 30 years ago, her career began with her number one single  “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites. It’s also the first Billboard number one single for an artist without a recording contract. Later in her career, Loeb achieved two additional top 20 singles with “Do You Sleep?” in 1996 and “I Do” in 1998. Her studio albums include two back-to-back albums that were certified gold: Tails and Firecracker.

Henry Winkler, popular for his break out role as Arthur “Fonzie/The Fonz” Fonzarelli” in the popular 70s/80s series Happy Days, will be sharing some of his personal experiences as Montgomery College’s Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center (51 Mannakee St. in Rockville) on Tuesday, October 29th.

Rachel Chavkin, a stage director perhaps best known for directing the musicals Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812 and Hadestown, was recently honored by having 48th St. in New York renamed Chavkin Way on March 20th. She is a 1998 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring.
