Jelly Roll, a popular rapper, singer, and songwriter who rose to mainstream prominence in 2022 following the release of two singles, “Son of a Sinner” and “Need a Favor”, has released a new single called “Lonely Road” featuring MGK. Hootie and the Blowfish will be returning to the area with two local concerts in August. The first will be in Columbia, MD at Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 3rd followed by a show in Bristow, VA at Jiffy Lube Live on August 17th. This is somewhat of a homecoming as half of the band, Mark Bryan and Dean Felber, are graduates of Seneca Valley High School in Germantown.

Actor Michael Ealy has recently made a splash in his recurring role on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’– the second  series that’s part of STARZ’ Power Universe. Michael Ealy, then known as Michael Brown, was born in D.C. and raised in Montgomery County where he grew up in Silver Spring and graduated from Springbrook High School (later attending the University of Maryland).

The Frederick Keys will host “Wrestling Night” on Friday, July 26, featuring WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett. Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018, Jarrett has held championships in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), World Championship Wrestling, Total Nonstop Action, and currently competes for All Elite Wrestling.

Montgomery College will host “In Conversation with Giancarlo Esposito” at the Robert E Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville on Thursday, November 7.  Esposito is best known for his role as Gustavo Fring in AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.”

Martin Mull passed away at 80-years-old on Thursday, July 27th. His daughter, Maggie Mull, announced his passing on instagram on Friday evening (her words can be seen below). Mull was an entertainer primarily known for his comedic acting roles whose career also included contributions as a musician and painter. During his music career, he once performed right here in Montgomery County— opening for Bruce Springsteen at the Shady Grove Music Fair in Gaithersburg in October 1974.

Taraji P. Henson, a DMV native who was born in DC and grew up in Prince George’s County, returns to the BET Awards 2024 as host. The show will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater on June 30, 2024 at 8pm EST from Los Angeles, California. Henson is a six time BET Awards winner as an actress in movies like Hustle & Flow and Hidden Figures, and the tv show Empire.
