A couple years back we let you know of MoCo resident Jonathan Mensah, who created the All In Summer Tour– a platform that allows some of the best basketball players in our area to go head to head while crowds watch the games in person or through Instagram. Now, he has brought together Seneca Valley legend Bruce Massey Jr. And a Prince George’s County’s Kevin Kuteyi aka “Uncle Skoob” for a 2v2 tour event that will take place at Paint Branch High School on Saturday, September 2 from 2pm-7pm.

Mensah tells us he wanted to bring his tour back to its roots with 2v2 basketball, moving away from the 1v1 games for now. He is opening things up to all area basketball players who simply have to comment or send a DM in order to be invited to play (@all_in_summer_tour). Saturday’all event is free for the community.

The City of Gaithersburg is in the process of developing a 9.54-acre park with parking, community gardens, a bicycle skills course (pump track), open space, pavilions, a playground, fitness pods, and a welcome plaza. Originally scheduled to be completed February 2023, there have been some delays. While a new completion date is not yet available, much of the work in the actual park has been completed. It looks like some clean-up is needed within the park and some work on the roads leading up to it is still necessary. It’s possible this park opens this fall.

A new parking lot will be constructed at the park’s west boundary. Vehicular access to the park will be through the drive that extends from Darnestown Road. Pedestrians will be able to access the site from Darnestown Road via a path that will be located parallel to the access drive into the park. Pedestrians will also be able to access the park from Marsh Lane. A Ride-On bus stop is located on Darnestown Road at the park entrance.

Quince Orchard High School Health and Special Education teacher Julie Lyst is going into her 13th year teaching. This year, she’s also heading into the schoool year as one of the popular clothing brand Chubbies’ 2023 Brand Icons.

Chubbies was founded in 2011 by a group of friends who found the traditional world of men’s capital-F-”Fashion” completely unrelatable. “We saw pictures of shirtless men with rippling ab muscles, some standing outside of storefronts coating you with cologne, with the message of “if only you buy our clothes you can try to be as cool as we are” – and we were absolutely repelled.” The clothing brand spent months searching, sorting through thousands of votes, and putting their skills to the test in a real Chubbies photoshoot, and recently announced five winners, that included MoCo’s very own Julie Lyst.

He has continued his work as part of the crew and will wrap up after next week’s final preseason game against Cincinnati Bengals.
