Rockville’s Rocktobierfest to Take Place This September

Rocktobierfest is set to return to Rockville after last year’s cancellation. The event will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and features two stages of entertainment, including German and rock music. Guests can also enjoy beverages for sale by local breweries and participants, food, and an artisan shopping area. This annual event attracts nearly 10,000 people to Rockville Town Center.

Local artisans and breweries are invited to apply to participate as a vendor for Rocktobierfest. 31st Annual Taste of Bethesda Set For This Fall

The 31st annual Taste of Bethesda is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th from 11am – 4pm, and will feature Bethesda’s best restaurants, five stages of live entertainment, an activity area for kids and more.

Admission to the Taste of Bethesda is free. Taste tickets are sold on-site in bundles of four tickets for $5. Food servings cost one to four tickets. Restaurants serve delectable dishes from 11am-4pm. Ticket sales end at 3:30pm. The event is held along Norfolk, St. Elmo, Cordell, Del Ray and Auburn Avenues in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle. Taste of Bethesda is located just three blocks from the Bethesda Metro. Participating restaurants and entertainment schedule can be seen below:

BrickFair, A LEGO Convention, is Taking Place This Weekend in Northern Virginia

The convention was first held in 2008 at Tysons Corner, Virginia by Todd Webb, and in subsequent years, the flagship Virginia convention has been held in Chantilly, typically during the first weekend of August. BrickFair is a four-day event, operating generally Thursday through Sunday. The convention displays Lego models, displays and trains, most often covering more than 100,000 square feet of convention space. BrickFair conventions are also held in New England and the Southeastern United States, with the advent of BrickFair Alabama in 2012 and BrickFair New England in 2013. BrickFair operates in every season and in four East Coast states. BrickFair is believed to be the largest Lego convention in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The Virginia convention has had up to 22,500 attendees in its public hours.

The first BrickFair convention, in 2008, was held as a four-day convention at the Sheraton Premiere Hotel near Tysons Corner in Vienna, Virginia. The location was partially chosen because it was the 2006 site of BrickFest, a now-defunct Lego convention. In 2010, BrickFair was moved to the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA to make room for further expansion of the event. Metro Will Offer Extended Service for Beyoncé fans Sunday Night

Metro will “Hold Up” the final train departing from Morgan Boulevard Station on Sunday night to give the #BeyHive a “Flawless” ride to and from FedEx Field.

The last Silver Line train toward Ashburn on Sunday night will now depart Morgan Boulevard at 12:04 a.m. instead of 11:34 p.m., allowing concertgoers enough time to walk from the stadium to the station. Metro will make late trains available at transfer stations so customers aboard the final Silver Line train can rely on Metro to get them to their destinations on all lines. All customers in line at Morgan Boulevard at 12:04 a.m. will be accommodated.

Don Geronimo Releases Statement Regarding Incident That Led to Firing From BIG100

Longtime local radio host Michael Sorce, better known as Don Geronimo, was fired from radio station WBIG “Big100” over the weekend after making on-air remarks about WUSA9 sports reporter Sharla McBride on Thursday, July 27. The incident occurred while Geronimo and co-host Crash Young were broadcasting live from Commanders training camp. Geronimo referred to McBride as “Barbie”, and initially thought she was a cheerleader. Geronimo released the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:

Some of the Biggest Names in Tennis Are in Town for The ‘Mubadala Citi DC Open’; The Only Combined ATP-WTA 500-Level Tennis Tournament in the World

Last month it was announced that The Citi Open in Washington, D.C. is combining with the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic to become the Mubadala Citi DC Open beginning in 2023. The move from San Jose elevated the DC women’s event from a WTA 250 level to a WTA 500 level, making the Mubadala Citi DC Open the only combined ATP-WTA 500 tournament in the world on the tour calendar. The move is subject to ATP Board approval.

The Mubadala Citi DC Open is the fifth largest pro tennis event in the United States and kicks off in earnest Monday with a star-studded lineup on the first day of main draw play at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park in the nation’s capital. From former World No.1s Viktoria Azarenka and Andy Murray to past DC champions Liudmila Samsonova, Sloane Stephens and Gael Monfils to local favorite Frances Tiafoe, fans will be treated to plenty of headliners on the first full day in Rock Creek Park.

Planned Buc-ee’s Likely to Become First to Open in Virginia

Last month we let you know of plans for Buc-ee’s Travel Center to expand their operations to New Kent County, Virginia at the exit 211 interchange along Interstate 64– the first in Virginia. The company plans to construct a 74,000 SF store with 120 fueling positions, 557 parking spaces, 24 Tesla charging spaces and 10 bus/RV parking spaces. The location is in the Richmond area, over 125 miles from most parts of Montgomery County. Now we know of plans for a new Buc-ee’s Travel Center that will likely beat this one to opening, in Rockingham County, Virginia at the exit 240 interchange along Interstate 81 (located near Harrisonburg, VA)– a similar distance form Montgomery County, in a different direction.

Per the Rockingham County, VA Facebook page, the company plans to construct a 74,000 square foot store with 120 fueling positions and 24 EV charging stations. The projected opening is in 2025. The company has requested a Special Use Permit for the review and approval of a proposed sign plan for the project.

Comic Convention is Coming to Gaithersburg on August 6th

The Montgomery County Comic & Cosplay Club, a social club of people who are passionate about comics, anime, and cosplay– and everything related to it, are hosting MonkeyCon from 10am-4pm at Bohrer Park (506 S Frederick Ave.) in Gaithersburg on Sunday, August 6th. Works By Gaithersburg Camera Club on Display Until October

The City of Gaithersburg presents works by the Gaithersburg Camera Club, on display through October 1, 2023, at Kentlands Mansion. Meet the artists and view their works at a free Artists Reception on Sunday, August 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. All our welcome; light refreshments will be served.

This exhibit features 55 images depicting a wide variety of subject matter. Madden Ratings For NFL Players With MoCo Ties

Madden NFL (known as John Madden Football until 1993) is a popular football video game named after the late Pro Football Hall of Fame coach and commentator, John Madden. Every August, the game releases its newest installment and the weeks leading up to the release feature the introduction of the players’ “Madden rating” to start the season. Below, we’ll take a look at the Madden ratings for some of the NFL players with ties to Montgomery County:

Cam Brown: The Silver Spring native and Bullis graduate is an outside linebacker with the New York Giants. He has an Overall Rating of 63 with scores in the 80s for speed, acceleration, jumping, and toughness.
