Takoma Park’s National Night Out (NNO) event will take place on Tuesday, August 1st from 6pm-9pm at Piney Branch Elementary School (7510 Maple Ave). National Night Out is an annual event hosted by the police department to bring the community together as a whole to increase awareness in safety and crime prevention; to support locally-based businesses, groups, and organizations; and to strengthen relationships among the community members and between the community and local police department. Per the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair: The Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds is private property and we do not recognize any state or federal issued Concealed or Open Carry Firearm Permit. The Fair is a Family Friendly event that provides agricultural education and entertainment to children of all ages. Carrying firearms, weapons, smoking, vaping, and inappropriate behavior are prohibited.

This Saturday, July 22, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington are resuming their Summer Movie Night. This weekend, Wreck-It Ralph will be shown at dusk in St. Paul Park on the big screen.

Starting at 7PM, activities and games will be available in the Park, including a water balloon toss and the Fire Department’s Safety House. The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department encourages moviegoers to bring blankets, picnics, friends and family. The “World’s Largest Rubber Duck”, also known as Mama Duck, is coming to Maryland when it arrives in Leonardtown, MD from August 4-6 followed by a trip to Crisfield, MD from August 11-13.

The duck is more than six stories high, 79 feet wide, 80 feet long and weighs over 30,000 pounds,  according to CBS Pittsburgh. Not to be confused with the #KindessDuck of Kindness Duck Project, the “World’s Largest Rubber Duck” was created by Craig Samborski. In an interview with WTOP, he said “I didn’t know what I was getting into when I built this. There are so many people in the world that love rubber ducks. That’s my biggest thing why I love doing this is because it makes people so happy.


The Urbana Volunteer Fire Department’s 49th Community Carnival is open nightly this week through Sunday, July 23.

The event is tailored towards fun for the whole family. Admission and parking are free, and the doors open every evening this week at 5:30, with rides opening at 6:00. There are a variety of carnival games throughout the midway. This year, there will be free nightly live music and fireworks at 10:00 PM Thursday night. A Blackstone 36″ Griddle is being raffled off, with the raffle drawing Sunday night. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, unlimited ride tickets are available for $20.


Montgomery County Recreation is hosting a “Pooch Pool Party” on August 26th and 27th from 11am until 3pm at the Upper County Outdoor Pool, located at 8211 Emory Grove Rd. in Gaithersburg. Additional information can be found for this paid event below, per Montgomery County Rec:

“We’ve closed the pool to humans and opened it to dogs! Dogs will be allowed to swim and frolic at the pool before it is closed and cleaned for the winter. Each dog MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult. Any dog displaying any signs of aggression will be asked to leave immediately. ALL DOGS MUST PROVIDE WRITTEN PROOF OF A CURRENT RABIES VACCINATION before they will be allowed into the event, and dogs owned by county residents must have a current Montgomery County dog license, available from the County Police Department. Please register in the name of the responsible adult who will accompany the dog. Due to health concerns, humans may wade only up to the knees at your own risk. Set to coincide with International Anti-Bullying Month and take place in front of the Macy’s Lower Court from 2pm to 3pm on Friday, July 21, the event will shed light on anti-bullying and non-violence. Esteemed Broadway performer and Artistic Director of the Foundation, Danny Soto, will lead the dance party.

A celebration of unity and inclusivity, the event is aligned with Westfield Wheaton Mall’s ongoing mission to foster community connections in safe, vibrant public spaces. It will feature performances by over a hundred people from a myriad of local community groups, including teenage campers, senior citizens, a go-go band from the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, and visiting Senegalese youth as part of an exchange program. Montgomery Parks is celebrating the tenth annual Latino Conservation Week July 15-23, 2023, with events and programs to support the Latino community in getting outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources. Latino Conservation Week was started by the Hispanic Access Foundation to connect Latino communities with access to outdoor recreation and conservation education. More than 200 events are planned nationwide to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Montgomery Parks has several free events planned for adults and children.
