New Signage in Montgomery Village Shopping Center and Futsal/Soccer and Pickleball Courts Coming to North Creek Community Center

Many have been following the ongoing construction at the Montgomery Village Shopping Center eagerly awaiting the announcement of new tenants.

In the last year we’ve reported on two upcoming Lidl stores that will be in Glenmont (old Shoppers location) and in Montgomery Village (in the now-vacant Professional Center site that is on Montgomery Village and Centerway, across from the Montgomery Village shopping center).

Governor Larry Hogan announced today that Lidl US, America’s fastest growing retailer, will open 10 new stores and add 400 jobs in Maryland by the end of 2021, more than doubling its footprint in the state.

Gardenia’s Cafe, described as homemade, multicultural cuisine made with clean ingredients, will have its grand opening this Thursday, January 23rd.

The cafe is owned and operated by a family of four (pictured) and will offer a selection of baked goods, coffee, fresh breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a few vegan and gluten free options.

The Kettler brother (Clarence, Milton, and Charles) built Montgomery Village after Clarence had the idea of building a special town.

In 1962, they bought The Walker Farm, Thomas Farm, The Brothers Mills, The French Farm, The Fulks Farm, The Patton Farm, The Wilson Farm, and The James Walter Deppa property. The Walker Farm was the largest of all the properties the Kettlers bought. It was 412 acres and now is Walkers Choice, Cider Mill, Horizon Run, Christopher Court, Dockside, Nathan’s Hill, Millrace, the library, the day care center, Montgomery Village Plaza, Breckenridge, the Verandahs, Grover’s Forge, Lake Whetstone, South Valley Park and part of Lakeforest Mall (courtesy of The Montgomery Village website).
