According to Montgomery County Police, “On Monday, October 9, 2023, at approximately 9:55 p.m., MCP officers responded to the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle in Gaithersburg for the report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation has revealed that several suspects arrived at the location in a vehicle, and shots were fired. Three vehicles in the parking lot and an apartment were struck by gunfire. Shell casings were recovered.  An adult male has been arrested. This is an active and ongoing investigation.”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a “well-involved” vehicle fire on Monday, October 9,  in the 800blk of Crown Park Ave, near near Decloverly Drive and close to the Crown Farm Community Center. .  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, “the car had recently been towed to this location, fire involved engine compartment, and interior dash, no injuries, cause under investigation & likely mechanical in nature.” We will provide an update if addition information becomes available.

The playground consisting of figure-like slides, swings, and monkey bars that was located behind the Londonderry Apartment complex in Gaithersburg has been entirely removed. The playground, which stood at the location for at least forty years, was visible to drivers going northbound on I-270 between exits 9 and 10. Half of the equipment was removed a couple years back– we were told it was due to deteriorating condition. A representative from the leasing office told us that they were advised to have the remaining equipment removed following an inspection in August and that the playground was removed entirely last month.

In 2019, our own Mr. MoCo made the trek to the site. “I had to take a visit to the playground located behind the Londonderry complex in Gaithersburg. Per MCPD:  The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in the 8200 block of Snouffer School Road, just before Bonanza Way. At approximately 8:58, Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area for the report of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, 47-year-old Carlos Tapia-Sosa of Rockville, was located in the roadway. Tapia-Sosa was pronounced dead. The driver of a silver, 2012 Hyundai Elantra, remained on the scene. The preliminary investigation by CRU detectives has revealed that the driver of the Elantra was traveling westbound on Snouffer School Road. Tapia-Sosa was crossing Snouffer School Road from south to north when he was struck in lane two of westbound Snouffer School Road.


Dunkin’ has been making a big push lately in Montgomery County, with new locations at the Layhill Center (14328 Layhill Rd) in Silver Spring and in the Goshen Crossing Shopping Center in Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village, where it has taken over the former Capital One Bank building at 20000 Goshen Rd.  Last December, we let you know that Dunkin’ is continuing its massive expansion across the country and within MoCo, and there are currently four locations in the works:

Dunkin’ will be taking over 1,500 SF in the back half of the building that was previously home to Capital One Bank building at 9761 Traville Gateway Drive in Rockville. The location will also have a drive-thru. 1,700 SF on the front side of the building is still available to lease and has also received a facelift since its days as a bank. Crews have been working on both the interior and exterior of the space, with a projected opening timeframe of late 2023/early 2024.


Montgomery County police has issued a brief summary of events regarding a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Saturday, October 7: “At approximately 9 p.m., Montgomery County Fire Rescue and MCPD responded to the 8200 block of Snouffer School Road, just before Bonanza Way, for a pedestrian struck.  Upon arrival, they found an adult male, who was pronounced dead at the location.  The driver of a Hyundai Elantra remained on scene.  The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this fatality. More information will be released when it is available, including the name of the deceased, following proper notification of next of kin.”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) and Montgomery County police responded to a call for a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Snouffer School Rd. in Gaithersburg on Saturday night. According to our public safety reporter, Cordell Pugh, the pedestrian was deceased upon arrival and Snouffer School Rd. will remain closed between Cherry Laurel Ln. and Flower Hill Way for several hours for collision reconstruction.

The festivities will be occurring by the Arts Barn, Kentlands Mansion, and Kentlands Village Green, along Main Street and Inspiration Lane. Starting at 6 a.m. the following streets will be closed and will re-open at approximately 9 p.m.:

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire at a three-story garden apartment at 900 Clopper Rd., near Metropolitan Grove Rd. in Gaithersburg shortly before 8pm on Friday night. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, smoke coming from the building was revealed to stem from a fire on the second floor. Multiple units responded and the building has been evacuated, with  Clopper Road (MD-117) temporarily closed from Metropolitan Grove Road to Firstfield Road until late Friday night.

In an update provided by Piringer on Saturday, approximately 50 firefighters responded to the apartment fire. Two adults were transported to the hospital. One of the adults was located and rescued from the apartment of origin (smoke inhalation), and another adult from a different apartment was transported due to an unrelated medical issue. The cause is still under investigation. Two apartment units were displaces (three adults, one dog, and one cat) and where was approximately $110K in damage.
