Fourteen-year-old MCPS student Trent is debuting his 2nd annual holiday lights show and food drive tonight at his home in North Potomac.
Trent is the same Quince Orchard freshman that created a Haunted Trail back in October.

The City received a 2021 Honorable Mention Award from the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission during a virtual ceremony on December 16, 2021 for Discovery Park. The Sustainable Growth Awards celebrate significant achievement by individuals, businesses, organizations, and local governments to realize the “12 Planning Visions” adopted by the Maryland General Assembly. The awards promote exemplary work that represents or inspires collaboration, innovation, conservation, community impact, and quality of life.
“Our Discovery Park project exemplifies the power of partnerships between businesses, residents and the City for sustainable growth,” said Mayor Jud Ashman. “We appreciate the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission’s recognition of this local initiative that demonstrates our City’s commitment to responsible growth and development.”
Gaithersburg Rapper Logic’s Song 1-800-273-8255 May Have Prevented Hundreds of Suicides, Study Finds

According to a report published on Monday by the British Medical Journal, Gaithersburg rapper Logic’s 2017 song 1-800-273-8255 may have prevented hundreds of suicides. The song title is the phone number for the American National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
The BMJ tracked date from 34 days following three specific events, the release of the song in 2017, the MTV Video Awards in 2017, and the 2018 Grammy’s, and found the Suicide Prevention Lifeline received an excess of 9915 calls, an increase of 6.9% over the expected number. The report states, “a corresponding model for suicides indicated a reduction over the same period of 245 suicides (95% confidence interval 36 to 453) or 5.5% (95% confidence interval 0.8% to 10.1%, P=0.02) below the expected number of suicides.”
A 15-year-old male is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting that occurred last night on the 18800 block of Walkers Choice Road.
According to police, at approximately 6:11 p.m., 6th District officers responded to calls of a shooting and upon arrival officers located a 15-year-old male suffering from a suspected gunshot to his chest. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injury.

Grog Beer and Wine at 524 N. Frederick Ave in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center is now closed and signage says the store will be moving to 513 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg this month. Grog was previously located in the space now occupied by Habit Burger.
KIMCO Realty has submitted Zoning Map Amendment application Z-8911-2021 and associated Concept Plan application SP-8910-2021, proposing to rezone 18501 North Frederick Avenue from C-2 (General Commercial) to CD (Corridor Development) and develop two multi-family residential buildings with ground floor commercial uses.
The shopping center is known as “Gaithersburg S.C.” and is home to MoCo’s only Bruster’s Ice Cream and Floor & Decor in the space that was once occupied by Hechinger. A new restaurant, Corner Pizza & Subs, signed on earlier this year to take over the space that was home to the first Classic Bakery location.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a house fire Sunday night on Aspenwood Ln in Gaithersburg.
MCFRS found a fire on the back deck from an unattended deep fryer.
Construction on Moe’s Southwest Grill at 19222 Montgomery Village Ave in the Montgomery Village Center began back in October.

Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids, a nationwide chain of kid’s haircut providers, is now open at 804 Muddy Branch Rd in the Muddy Branch shopping center in Gaithersburg.
It is located in between First Watch and Lum Thai.

Yuvan Sundrani (sophomore information science major at UMD), Jason Steinberg (sophomore computer science major at UMD), and Sid Jagtap (sophomore finance major at the University of Michigan) are launching an exciting new app called Soshi. Simply put, the app allows users to share all of their social media and contact information in one place with one tap.
These students were amongst the many seniors to miss out on the end of the year senior fun and started freshman year behind a screen. Quarantine left everyone with a little extra time on their hands. Jason Steinberg and Sid Jagtap founded MoCo Tutors, an affordable digital tutoring service aimed at helping Montgomery County students struggling with virtual instruction. Meanwhile, Yuvan Sundrani gained some experience and insight while interning with the artificial intelligence laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg as a Data Engineer Intern.
