A driving lesson didn’t go as planned in Kensington on Saturday afternoon, as we are told a teen drove off the side of a parking garage during a driving lesson with an adult. The incident occurred on the 10600 block of Nash Place, off of Plyers Mill Rd, in Kensington shortly after 3pm. Luckily for both vehicle occupants, there were no injuries sustained.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a single vehicle rolled over/off barrier of the parking garage (about a 10′ drop) which is located behind a house on Nash Pl.” The vehicle ended up getting wedged between the backyard of the home and a wall. Both occupants were assisted in getting out of the vehicle and evaluated by EMS. No injuries were sustained.

Brief History of the KVFD: On October 26, 1899 a large fire was discovered around 6:00 AM. The bell at St. Paul’s M. E. Church was vigorously rung to alert the town citizens to the disaster. There was little that could be done however, and the fire destroyed the Montgomery Press office and the Town Hall. Realizing that the town needed protection from fire, the citizens met that night at the town library. Mr. Leslie W. Maxson was elected chief of the Kensington Fire Company and was instructed to organize a fire company immediately.
Montgomery Parks’ 300-year-old historic linden oak tree was loved by many. The tree was taken down in July due to declining health, however, the wood salvaged from the tree will carry on its legacy as a park bench. Local chainsaw artist Colin Vale will begin carving the wood from the tree the first week of October. Once complete, the bench will be placed at Ken-Gar Palisades Local Park.
