Update: Jeffrey’s moved the closing up to July 11th.

Jeffrey’s Subs & Pizza at 15547 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, which operated as Jerry’s Subs & Pizza for three decades before rebranding in 2020, has announced it will permanently close on Monday, July 14th.


Maryland Department of Natural Resources scientists caution the public to be vigilant about freshwater algae mats that can sometimes be a health hazard for dogs and other animals. Previously, as recent as last summer, Montgomery Parks urged patrons to use caution when recreating on or near Lake Needwood and Lake Frank located within Rock Creek Regional Park due to potential risks associated with high levels of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).

The community is mourning the sudden loss of Erik Gray Ledbetter, a beloved local park ranger who passed away on July 1, 2025 in the line of duty. A dedicated public servant and an individual of diverse passions, Ledbetter’s life was marked by a deep commitment to history, nature, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his journey from his childhood in Cheverly to his impactful career in Maryland’s state parks– including his time at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County’s ban on gas-powered leaf blowers took effect on July 1, 2025, following legislation passed to address concerns related to noise, emissions, and health impacts. The law prohibits the use of handheld, backpack, and walk-behind gas-powered blowers and vacuums on private and commercial properties, as well as by local government agencies. Commas Food Hall, a new 13,000-square-foot food destination on the third level of Ellsworth Place (8661 Colesville Rd) in Downtown Silver Spring, recently soft opened with just some of its stalls currently operating. Tokoa Cheesesteaks, which local food reviewer “Big Schlim” has rated with his highest honor, “STAMP,” has just opened in the food hall.

Due to ongoing Purple Line construction, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has implemented detours for Ride On bus routes 12, 13, and 19 in Silver Spring, with updated routing and temporary stops in place through at least August 2025.
