The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is reminding residents that, as of Tuesday, July 1, drivers are prohibited from making right turns at red traffic signals in designated downtown and town center areas across the county. The policy, part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 (Bill 11-23), aims to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in some of Montgomery County’s busiest corridors. (more…)

In October, we reported that Zaxbys was entering the Maryland market with three locations along the Eastern Shore. Then, this past spring, Zaxbys announced that it’s planning to open four additional restaurants across Baltimore and Howard counties. Now, Biz Journals reports that the Prince George’s County Planning Board approved the county’s first Zaxby’s location.
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Administration has announced funding for long-awaited pedestrian, bicycle and roadway improvements along MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) in the Montgomery Hills area of Montgomery County.
The Maryland Office of the Comptroller reported that the state collected over $18.4 million in cannabis sales tax revenue between April and June 2025, with the largest share coming from the Central Region, and noted that the tax rate increased from 9% to 12% on July 1, 2025, under the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act. It has now been 20 years since Tristan Courtland Turner disappeared, and his case remains unsolved. Turner, who was 22 at the time, was last seen on August 20, 2005, leaving his home in Montgomery Village, Maryland, to travel to Baltimore. He never returned and has not been heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, Turner was driving a borrowed black 2002 Honda Civic Del Sol with Maryland license plates.
A $1 million second-tier winning Powerball ticket was sold at Slade BP Gas Station on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville for the Sept. 3 drawing. Four third-tier $50,000 winning tickets were also sold at Royal Farms in Dundalk, Shoppers in Germantown, Shoppers in Laurel, and S&W Liquors in Temple Hills. According to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), more than 200 “No Turn on Red” signs have recently been installed across Montgomery County as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 (MC Bill 11-23).
