Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a basement fire on Sunday, November 12 on Troy Rd in Kensington. According to MCFRS Battalion Chief Jason Blake, residents of the home were alerted by a working smoke detector/fire alarm and there were no injuries reported. One family and their pets have been displaced. Blake did not give a cause/source of the fire. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
Animal Control and and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) crews rescued a dog from a storm drain on Friday, November 11 in the area of Washington Grove Ln and Center St in Gaithersburg. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, responders “removed storm grates, in turn scared dog out of pipe to waiting @mcfrs crew at other end.”
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a crash that involved a vehicle being driven into the woods at the I-270 S ramp to Sam Eig Highway (exit 9) at approximately 7:25am on Thursday morning.
According to Assistant MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash involved just the single vehicle and two occupants were extricated from the car. Both occupants were transported to an area hospital– one with life -threatening injuries, and another with less serious injuries. Pazos tweeted, “It appears Driver had medical emergency (likely pressing on gas while passenger was trying to steer car to avoid to other cars) consequently they lost control on ramp & ended up in wooded area.”
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 11700 blk of Lovejoy St in Silver Spring for a collision involving multiple persons on Wednesday, November 8. According to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos, the collision involved two vehicles, with one vehicle hitting a tree. EMS has transported three adults to an area hospitals with non-life threatening injures.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 7800 block of Kennewick Ave., near N St. in Takoma Park for the report of a living room fire located in a 3-level apartment Tuesday morning. According to to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, firefighters rescued/assisted two trapped occupants out of bedroom. Two patients were evaluated with non-life threating injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 18800 block of Bent Willow Dr in Germantown on Tuesday, November 7, for the report of a cell phone on fire. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, “cell phone overheated and caught on fire in apt, resident moved phone out of apt into hallway, occupant got out, closed door and called 911. Arriving firefighters encountered ‘smoking device’ in hallway.”
The building was evacuated and one patient is being evacuated for minor burns. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) have responded to the scene of a crash involving several vehicles on southbound I-270, between exits 6 (W Montgomery Avenue) and 4 (Montrose Rd.) on Monday night.

A driver struck a pedestrian at approximately 5:30pm on River Rd. at Newbridge Drive in Potomac on Monday evening, according to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services PIO Pete Piringer tweeted the following at 5:37pm, “River Road and Newbridge Drive, collision, involves pedestrian”.
According to Pugh, the pedestrian has been “transported to an area Trauma Center with serious injuries. Scene being held with River Road closed.” Alert Montgomery sent out the following Severe Traffic Alert at 6:32pm: “Collision reconstruction investigation closes both directions of River Rd (MD 190) at Newbridge Dr. This may be an extended incident. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire in the 9000blk of Center Way Rd, near Goshen Rd in Montgomery Village on Monday, November 6 around 10am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was located in a pre-fabricated chimney and was caused by an overloaded fireplace. There was minor extension into the second floor of the home. There are no reported injuries and two occupants have been displaced.

The incident occurred around 1pm on US-29 Columbia Pike at Musgrove Road (Fairland). According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, the motorcyclist was transported to an area Trauma Center with serious to critical injuries.
