Several Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) units responded to 7101 Democracy Blvd (Montgomery Mall) for a car fire in the garage near Nordstroms. The car fire was quickly extinguished with no damage to the garage structure and no injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 1100blk of Grandin Ave in Rockville on Monday, August 11, for the report of a fire. According to MCFRS Battalion Chief Jason Blake, crews arrived to find a small bedroom fire. All occupants of the home are accounted for and there were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 19000 block of Crested Iris Way in Montgomery Village for the report of a vehicle driven into a townhome. The incident occurred around 5pm on Monday, August 14. There were no injuries reported and no patients were transported. Montgomery County Police are currently on scene.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a house fire at approximately 9:30pm on the 7600 block of Hawkins Creamery Rd near Laytonsville on Sunday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer and Assistant Chiefs James Carpenter and David Pazos, crews from Montgomery and Howard County responded last night for an outside fire that extended to the roof of the single family home, before crews were able to extinguish it. A family of five (two adults and three children) along with two dogs and a cat have been displaced, but were uninjured. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has activated two Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) canine handler teams to Maui on Sunday to aid in recovery, according to Assistant Chief David Pazos. The two teams are Alan Rossi with his dog Phirst and John Gilkey with his dog Piper. They arrived in Hawaii on Sunday night.

The death toll in the Maui fires climbed to at least 93 on Saturday, which makes this Hawaii’s deadliest natural disaster and the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history. According to Firehouse.com, the economic losses suffered due to the fire has approached $6 billion. “FEMA said on social media Saturday that than 150 people were working on search and rescue crews with more on the way as they continued this weekend to comb through the wreckage on the western shore of Maui, primarily in the devastated city of Lahaina, as well as in the Kihei area and the island’s upcountry hills around Kula.”


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fatal collision involving a single motorcycle on Thursday, August 10.  According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the collision occurred on NB I270 between Route 27 and Route 121, on the ramp to Exit 18, around 7:30pm.

According to police, via FOX 5’s Allison Papson (@AllisonPapson) on Twitter, “Shortly after 7:30 p.m. this evening, troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack responded to northbound I-270 to MD 121 for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single motorcycle. Preliminary investigation reveals a Motorcycle was traveling on the ramp from N/B I-270 when for unknown reasons, traveled off the roadway and struck a guardrail. The operator and sole occupant on the Motorcycle, who has not been identified, was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical services personnel. All lanes have since reopened. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 2200blk of McAuliffe Dr., near Meadow Hall Drive, in Rockville (near Twinbrook Library), around 7:45am on Thursday, August 10 after a car struck a utility pole and then crashed into a home. According to Rockville Police, “Driver is a 67-year old male, he is not the homeowner. A case of operator error, driver transported with minor injuries, cited for various traffic offenses. Housing inspectors are currently on scene.”

Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer tweeted that the occupied vehicle was in contact with ‘live’ powerlines. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a dumpster fire on 8600 16th Street at the 8600 Apartments in Silver Spring early Tuesday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, at approximately 12:30am, crews arrived and extinguished a dumpster fire that occurred under an overhand at the apartment complex (below apartments). There was no extension into the building, no injuries, and no displacement due to the fire. The smoke was ventilated and cleared, but approximately $25K in damage was incurred.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire in the basement of Rumba Y Carbon, a restaurant located at 11222 Grandview Ave (off of Veirs Mill Rd) in Wheaton, early Sunday morning.  According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the call came in at approximately 3:30am and approximately 65 firefighters responded to the call to get the fire under control and eventually extinguished.

On Monday, Piringer tweeted that the “fire is still under investigation, but origin & cause appears to be suspicious in nature.” Total damage is estimated to be $750K, including $500K to structure and $250K to contents. One employee of the restaurant was transported to the hospital with minor burns and other non-life threatening injuries. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at the Enclave Apartments (11235 Oak Leaf Dr,) near Columbia Pike in White Oak on Sunday morning, August 8. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was located on the 19th floor of the 20-story building. Firefighters rescued two people who were both transported to the hospital with life-threating injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call on the 12200 block of Centerhill St in Silver Spring on Friday, August 4, for a report of a fire at a two-story duplex with one person trapped inside. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that every occupant made it out of the homes safely.

The fire displaced eight residents, which included five adults, and three children from two residential homes (duplex). Red Cross has supplied immediate assistance while renovations are occurring. How the fire occurred is still under investigation. Yesterday, units from fs718 (Glenmont) are  canvassing the Glenmont Forest neighborhood in the area of the 12200 block of Centerhill St,  going door-to-door and checking/installing smoke alarms. They are also available yo answer any questions residents have on the fire.
