Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the area of Airpark Rd and Muncaster Mill Rd, near Laytonia Park, for a crash involving a motorcycle at approximately 3pm on Sunday afternoon. According to WJLA, the motorcyclist was killed in the crash.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash occurred at a sharp curve on Airpark Rd between Muncaster Mill Rd and Stratos Ln/Woodfield Rd and units were evaluating one adult with life threatening injuries upon arrival. According to Montgomery County Police, “Airpark Dr. is closed between Muncaster Mill Rd. and Antares Dr. as the result of a traffic collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. The express lanes of I-270 S are closed again between exit 6, W Montgomery Ave, and Exit 4, Montrose Rd, on Sunday morning following a traffic collision that involves a pedestrian, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. MCFRS is on the scene for one adult patient with a traumatic and life threatening injury.

Per Montgomery County Police: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: The main lanes of southbound 270 between 28 and Montrose Rd. are closed as the result of a traffic collision. Drivers are expected to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”


The preliminary investigation has revealed that the school bus was turning left from East Village Avenue onto Plum Creek Drive when it was struck by a BMW traveling on East Village Avenue.  The driver and passenger of the BMW were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.  

There were six occupants on the school bus. Some occupants on the bus sustained minor injuries but none were transported to area hospitals.  


The preliminary investigation has revealed that the school bus was turning left from Plum Creek Road onto East Village Avenue when it was struck by a BMW traveling on East Village Avenue.  The driver and passenger of the BMW were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

Update: Train service has been restored between Twinbrook & Shady Grove following earlier fire dept. activity outside Rockville. Expect delays.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) units are currently at the at Rockville Metro (1001 Rockville Pike) for a small fire in the roadway, according to Assistant Chief with MCFRS David Pazos. The station is currently being bypassed while MCFRS extinguishes the fire. There are no injuries reported.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at 915 Silver Spring Ave in Silver Spring around 7:30pm on Monday, May 15. According to Assistant Chief with MCFRS David Pazos, the fire originated in a dumpster that was located in the garage of a residential high rise. Firefighters extinguished the dumpster fire and there were no reported injuries or displacement.

Several of the eastbound MD200/ICC lanes are closed following a technical/high angle rescue by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) on the highway, between Redland Rd and Muncaster Mill Rd. around noon on Saturday.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a person jumped or fell off of a 100’ bridge into a wooded area below and suffered a traumatic injury. In an update provided at 12:37pm, Piringer shared that the injured person did not survive. Traffic remains backed up as of 1pm.


14-year-old Elijah Miles has succumbed to the injuries he suffered on Tuesday, May 9, 2023,  at approximately 8:53pm when he was struck by a driver in the area of Wisteria Drive and Great Seneca Highway, near Seneca Valley High School. According to a GoFundMe organized by a friend of the family, Elijah was in 8th grade and a student at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown and has been described as “full of life and a giving child.” Donations can be made here to help the family with costs surrounding funeral arrangements.

Per MCPD: On Tuesday night, 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Wisteria Dr. and Great Seneca Hwy. for the report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a black Acura TSX was traveling northbound on Wisteria Drive, when for reasons still under investigation, the driver struck the 15-year-old male victim (it is now known that the victim, Elijah Miles, was 14-years old), who was crossing the roadway in a westbound direction. Elijah was then transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.


On Thursday afternoon Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a “vehicle into a building” For reasons unknown, a driver and their car ended up approximately 30 feet into Sniffers Doggie Retreat at 7300 Westmore Rd (opposite side of Montgomery College on 355) in Rockville around 4:30pm.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, there were no injuries, but two dogs ended up getting loose following the crash. One was found soon after the crash, but another dog remained missing until Saturday morning when Sniffers reported that the dog walked up to the facility’s front door. For reasons unknown at this time, a driver and their car ended up approximately 30 feet into Sniffers Doggie Retreat at 7300 Westmore Rd (opposite side of Montgomery College on 355) in Rockville around 4:30pm Thursday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, there were no injuries, but a dog ended up getting loose following the crash. No word at this time on when or if the dog was found. A building inspector was notified and the area has been closed off.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a vehicle fire in the parking lot of the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy (former home of Peary High School) at 13300 Arctic Ave in Rockville on Tuesday, May 9 around 10pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer,  the fire was contained to the bed of a Ford F250 and was likely caused by “improperly disposed of cooking materials or logs/ash from camp fire placed into bags/boxes that were put in truck bed.” Damage is estimated to be ~$10K and there were no injuries reported.
