MCFRS Respond to Collision at I-270 Ramp in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision on West Diamond Ave in Gaithersburg at the south bound I-270 ramp on Wednesday, May 10 around 8:30am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, two patients have been evaluated with non-life threatening injuries. Some lanes are currently blocked and drivers should expect delays. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

MCFRS Respond to Fire Caused by Lithium Ion Battery Wednesday Morning

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire in 1300blk of Crawford Dr in Rockville around 2:30am on Wednesday, May 10. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was located on the first floor of the single-family home and was caused by a “40V Lithium Ion battery that was plugged into a charger (battery overheating or electrical malfunction resulting in thermal runaway.)” Damage is estimated to be ~$20K and there were no injuries reported. Two adults, two dogs, and a cat have been displaced.

Update: 15-Year-Old Hospitalized With Life—Threatening Injuries After Being Struck by Driver in Germantown

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and Montgomery County Police responded to a collision involving a pedestrian Tuesday night in Germantown. According to MCPD, “at approximately 8:53 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area Wisteria Dr. and Great Seneca Hwy. for the report of traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 15-year-old male was crossing Wisteria Dr. after Great Seneca Hwy., when for reasons still under investigation he was struck by an Acura. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Juvenile Pedestrian Critically Injured by Driver Near Seneca Valley High School Tuesday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a pedestrian Tuesday night in Germantown. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a juvenile was transported to the hospital with Priority 1 traumatic injury after being struck by a vehicle near Seneca Valley High School. Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 9:22pm: “Wisteria Dr. is closed in both directions between Great Seneca Hwy. and Circle Gate Dr. as the result of a traffic collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”

Collision With Overturned Vehicle Blocks All Lanes of Inner Loop I495 Monday Afternoon

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with an overturned vehicle on I495 near River Road, before MacArthur Boulevard, on Monday, May 8 around 12:30pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, EMS is evaluating three patients with non-life threatening injuries. The incident blocks all lanes of Inner Loop I-495 and the left two lanes of Outer Loop I-495 just prior to Exit 39 (River Rd/MD190). Drivers should expect significant delay and seek an alternate route.

One Transported to Hospital Following Single-Vehicle Collision in Ashton Sunday Morning

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Ashton Road in Ashton-Sandy Spring at approximately 4:15am on Sunday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the vehicle went off the road in front of the Exxon station at 17840 New Hampshire Ave and overturned. A patient was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital. There is currently no word on the cause of the crash or the condition of the patient.

Vehicle Driven Into Woods Thursday Morning

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision in Gaithersburg on Thursday, May 4 around 4:30am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a single vehicle was driven off the road and into a wooded area near the Exit 10 (Montgomery Village Ave) ramp on northbound I-270. Both occupants of the vehicle were extricated and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Collision Leads to Overturned Vehicle on Old Georgetown Rd Thursday Morning

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a collision that occurred in the area of Old Georgetown Rd, between Edson Ln and Tuckerman Ln, in North Bethesda at approximately 7am Thursday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the collision caused one of the vehicles, a pick-up truck, to overturn in the median on Old Georgetown Rd. One adult is being transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and some lanes are currently blocked.

Two Adults Transported to Hospital Following Fire That Originated Under Seat of Wheelchair in Apartment Building on Wednesday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to an automatic alarm that was activated by a fire at Alexander House, located at 8560 2nd Ave in Silver Spring at approximately 11:30pm on Wednesday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire was controlled and extinguished by the sprinkler system that was automatically set off by the fire. The lone occupant of the apartment was located in a motorized wheelchair and was taken to the burn center with life-threatening injuries after suffering significant burns. The fire originated under the seat of the wheelchair and was caused by an unknown malfunction or failure of the motorized wheelchair. The adult patient is in their 70s and listed in critical condition. HazMat checked batteries on the wheelchair and advised they were not Lithium Ion. The other adult transported to the hospital was due to a medical emergency not related to the fire. There was approximately $50K in damage to contents and sprinkle activation.

Two-Vehicle Collision in Germantown Sends At Least Two People to the Hospital Wednesday Evening

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving two vehicles shortly before 7pm on Wednesday evening in the area of Wisteria Drive and Father Hurley Blvd in Germantown.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the collision caused significant damage to two vehicles with one person initially trapped inside one of the cars when it went over an embankment and into a parking lot. At least two trauma patients were evaluated and transported to the hospital with priority 1 (life threatening) and priority 2 (serious) injuries. Some lanes remained blocked as of 8pm. Small Fire Extinguished at Building Under Construction in Pike & Rose

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire on the roof/penthouse of the under-construction building at 915 Meeting St shortly before 11am on Wednesday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the HVAC on the roof was smoking and being overhauled. The fire was contained to the HVAC unit and there was no extension aside from smoke. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. Some lanes on Rockville Pile, Rose Avenue, and Trade Street were temporarily blocked. Featured photo and video below by Michelle Sauer.
