Last Wednesday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at the Wheaton Body Shop that caused approximately $1 million in damage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the family who owns the body shop has to rebuild the business from the ground up. A GoFundMe started late last week has already raised over $35,000. Sadly, their business was completely destroyed in a devastating fire that occurred on Wednesday evening, April 26th, leaving them with nothing but ashes. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRA) responded to a collision that ended with a vehicle on its side in the woods on Park Vista Drive off of Layhill Road at approximately 10:15pm on Monday night. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, one adult was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by crews on the scene. The adult was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) is responding to a call that involves a crash with rollover on the northbound lanes of I-270 between Route 28 and Shady Grove Road, reported at approximately 8:45am on Sunday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash has resulted in a person being trapped inside the overturned vehicle. The crash occurred in the main lanes and most lanes were temporarily blocked.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a crash that involved a pick-up truck crashing into power lines on Ridge Rd, near Gue Rd, just north of town in Damascus at approximately 11:45pm. The crash caused a large power outage in Damascus.

This morning at 5:50am, Montgomery County Police provided an update, stating that Ridge Road, between Gue and Rte 80, is closed for several hours because of fallen power lines. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Featured photo sent in by Caden Higgins.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for three people trapped inside of an elevator at Medical Center Station in Bethesda shortly before 7pm on Friday evening.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the elevator was stuck 90 feet from the top and 30 feet from the bottom. Three people were trapped inside, with at least one of the people having a medical condition that “may preclude the most common ways of extrication.” The technical rescue was successful, per a 7:23pm update, with all three people successfully extricated. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene of a crash that left at least one person trapped inside of a vehicle on southbound route 29 Old Columbia Pike, just before Fairland Rd, in Fairland around 10pm on Thursday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the collision involved two vehicles with four total patients being evaluated on the scene. One person was extricated after being trapped inside of one of the vehicles involved. Some lanes remain blocked as of 10:45pm.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) has responded to a collision involving four vehicles on eastbound MD200 (ICC) prior to the Georgia Avenue exit (at Emory Ln) shortly before 10:30pm on Thursday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the collision possibly involves a pedestrian who was changing a tire and was struck by a passing driver. A person is also trapped inside the striking vehicle. At least four patients are being evaluated with most lanes closed on eastbound MD200 (ICC) and cars getting by on the shoulder. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving an overturned vehicle on outer loop I-495 just after the I-270 spur on Thursday, April 27 around 12:45pm. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, two adults were transported to the hospital, including one patient with Priority 2 trauma and one patient with non-life threatening injuries. Drivers should expect residual delays. We will post an update if additional information is available.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at a commercial auto body shop at approximately 7:30pm on the 11300blk of Fern St., near University Blvd. West in Wheaton. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, fighters arrived to heavy fire conditions which included the contents of the building and several vehicles.

By 8:30pm, Piringer tweeted that the bill of the fire had been knocked down, but that numerous hotspots remained. The fire involved the auto body shop and several vehicles. Surrounding roads remained closed for several hours. The fire originated at wire rack shelving, but the cause is still under investigation. Damage is estimated to be approximately $1 million, and no injuries were reported.

An SUV was driven into Papa John’s at College Plaza in Rockville (near Montgomery College Rockville) on Tuesday, April 25 around 10pm. There were no serious injuries and a building inspector was notified. Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Pete Piringer reminds residents that “Papa John’s delivers and there is no need to drive-in for carry out.” We will post an update if additional information becomes available.
