Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire in the 22000 block of Dickerson Rd, near Dickerson Church Rd and Big Woods Rd in Dickerson on Wednesday, April 26 around 2am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials on the front porch. A smoke alarm alerted residents and they evacuated safely.

Damage is estimated to be $15K and there were no injuries reported.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a hit and run involving a vehicle and utility poles at the intersection of Bird Road and Batchelor’s Forest Road in Olney around 7:30pm on Tuesday, April 25. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the road will be closed for a significant amount of time due the damaged utility poles and “live” wires down. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Serviced (MCFRS) responded to a fire at a two-story farmhouse on the 4200 block of Sundown Road between Sunshine and Laytonsville on Saturday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, approximately 55 firefighters responded to the call. Upon arrival, fire and smoke was coming from the house, which is located in a non-hydrant area with a limited access driveway. Live wires were reported down in the area and all occupants and pets were reported out of the house.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a collision with rollover on Friday afternoon in Rockville. According to the Rockville Police Department, the collision occurred at Southbound Frederick Rd and Redland Rd. Three people have been transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Drivers should expect delays. We will post an update if additional information is available.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire at a single family home on the 11700 block of Sherbrooke Way in Rockville at approximately 9:30pm on Wednesday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the homeowner heard crackling sounds outside and checked exterior cameras to find smoke coming from garage. At about the same time, a passerby pounded on the door of the house to let the residents know it was on fire. The resident and the passerby used a garden hose to control fire spread along the vinyl siding of the garage.


A body was recovered at Lake Churchill in Germantown on Tuesday morning, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Piringer noted that today’s activity may be related to an exhaustive search that took place at the lake on Easter Sunday (April 9th), where nothing was found.

On Sunday, April 9, MCFRS responded to a call at Lake Churchill in Germantown for a report of “someone in the water” from what has been described as a reliable source by MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. The call came at approximately 1pm. Crews searched on land and and with boats in the water and nothing was found at the time. Below is a video from the April 9 search.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a driver crashing their vehicle into a building at 8135 Snouffer School Road, near Cherry Laurel Lane, in Gaithersburg on Monday evening shortly before 6pm.

The crash occurred at Seasons Nursery, Inc. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is no word at the cause of the collision at this time. Featured photo sent in by Instagram user @gotta_fw_steff


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a “single vehicle into the woods with fire” on Shady Grove Rd and Midcounty Highway at approximately 2:15am early Monday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, one adult trauma patient was transported to the hospital. It was initially reported that there was also a passenger in the vehicle, but after an extensive search and police work, the individual was located at home. Morton’s Towing recovered the vehicle from the woods, “We recovered this vehicle, driver is very lucky to have survived. Engine and transmission came out of car on impact we arrived at 2:40am and finished around 5am.” said Morton’s Towing employee Dave G.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) and police responded to a call for a 3-year-old boy who fell from the second floor window of an apartment building in Takoma Park at approximately 2pm on Wednesday afternoon. The child was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the incident is still under investigation.

Per Takoma Park Police: “Today at approximately 2:00 pm, the Takoma Park Police Department, along with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, responded to the 1100 block of Linden Avenue, for a the report of 3-year old male falling from a 2nd floor window of an apartment building.  The child was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  This incident is still under investigation.” Featured photo courtesy of Google Maps


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a brush fire in the area of Beallsville Rd and Hillside Ln, along the the CSX railroad tracks, in Dickerson shortly before 6am on Wednesday morning.

According to a 7:26am update by MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire was contained and extinguished with crews getting ready to clear out. There were no injuries and likely “some deer have to be re-located & a few woodchucks are displaced & maybe a raccoon or two, as well…”, but the tracks are still shut down as of 7:30am.


All traffic currently stopped (9:00pm) on northbound I-270 after Exit 12, Watkins Mill Rd, due to a vehicle fire. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) and Montgomery County Police is currently on the scene. Featured photo and video below by Instagram user @lxl.d
