Per Rockville Police: “Traffic Collision – 2/26/23 at 5:23 p.m. Maryland Ave/Rockville Town Center. Vehicle crashed into ice rink, driver and passenger transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Thankfully, no pedestrians or skaters injured.”


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) respinded to call for a fire in a second floor bedroom of a two-story apartment building on the 8300 block of Roanoke Ave, off of Hudson Ave in Takoma Park, a little before 6:30am on Thursday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the building was evacuated, but the fire was extinguished with some extension and without any injuries. Several people may be displaced and damage is estimated at approximately $20K.


A fire that took place on Saturday, February 18th at the Arrive high-rise apartment complex on Georgia Avenue in Downtown Silver Spring resulted in one fatality and injuries to multiple residents, as well as the displacement of hundreds of residents. At the request of Montgomery County, Montgomery Housing Project (MHP) is managing a dedicated relief fund to assist those affected by the fire. One-hundred percent of donations will go directly to those affected.

Per MHP: “While this is not an MHP property, we maintain close ties with the community through the many affordable housing properties we have developed in Montgomery County, and are playing a role by managing financial donations to help impacted residents. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision with entrapment this morning around 5am on the inner loop of I495 after Old Georgetown Rd, in the area of Rt355. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a vehicle caught on fire after it went off the road and into a wooded area. There were two occupants inside the vehicle; one patient was extricated and transported with Priority 3, non-life threatening injuries, another young adult patient had Priority 1 traumatic life-threatening injuries and died on scene. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a “big dog” stuck in a construction hole on the 700 block of of Kersey Rd, off of Arcola Ave, in the Kemp Mill area of Silver Spring at approximately 9pm on Monday night (photo below).

MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer described the dog as a “fairly large, fluffy, family dog” who was walking in the backyard and fell into a construction hole and got stuck. Rescue crews, assisted by Technical Rescue Team TR700, were able to rescue the dog after about an hour. The dog was unharmed.

• Occupant on 8th floor called to let MCFRS know of smoke coming from the 7th floor this morning. Units arrived to find a fire on the 7th floor. Fire was contained to the 7th floor apartment with smoke on several floors above and below the unit.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a a call for smoke reported on the seventh floor of an 18-story residential building, The Pointe, at 8750 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Saturday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the building was being evacuated around 6am on Saturday morning with firefighters assisting people out. At 6:23am, Piringer tweeted that numerous people were trapped, mostly on balconies, and that several people were being treated for smoke inhalation. As of 7:20am, six people have been transported to the hospital and Georgia Avenue is closed in the area of Downtown Silver Spring (along with other roads). Initially a 2-alarm fire, Piringer later tweeted that it has become a third alarm fire.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a collision that led to an overturned vehicle on W Diamond Avenue near Bureau Drive in Gaithersburg at approximately 4:30pm on Friday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews two adults were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gaithersburg police put out a traffic alert at 5:28 announcing the closure of westbound W Diamond Avenue and alerts drivers to expect significant delays. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire reported in the bedroom of a two story, middle-of-the-row townhouse on Club Lake Rd in Montgomery Village at approximately 9:30pm on Thursday night (video below).

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, all occupants were able to get out as heavy smoke was showing upon the arrival of multiple crews. The fire extended to the roof and attic before the bulk of it was knocked out by approximately 9:55pm. There was little to no extension to neighboring/adjacent townhomes and no injuries were reported. Approximately $325K in damage and three adults have been displaced. A cat is also missing.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a crash on College Parkway, near Princeton Place in Rockville, at approximately 6am on Thursday morning. HAPPENING NOW: A rollover has closed all lanes of College Parkway between Nelson Street and Princeton Place in Rockville, officials said.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a collision with rollover that occurred shortly before 1:30pm on Midcounty Highway and Woodfield Rd in Gaithersburg on Wednesday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a total of three people were trapped inside the two vehicles involved in the collision upon arrival onto the scene. All patients were extricated and were transported to the hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries. The crash temporarily blocked multiple lanes, but has since been cleared.
