The incident at 11215 Georgia Ave in Wheaton “is over and occupants are re-occupying their apartments. Fire/Rescue units are picking up and going in service. Roads in the area are being re-opened”, according to Battalion Chief Jason Blake of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).

At approximately 6:30 Thursday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched to the 11200 block of Georgia Ave in Wheaton.  Originally dispatched for a fire alarm, crews arrived at the Arrive Wheaton apartments and along with the bomb squad and police department, began to investigate the claim of an explosive in the building.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services assisted the Prince George’s County Fire Department this morning at a fire on the 5900 block of Kerr Rd. in Laurel. The fire originated in the basement of the home and has been extinguished, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.

Piringer tweeted that firefighters rescued and removed multiple dogs and cats from the house, and that “some survived and some did not.” No other injuries have been reported. We will post an update when more information becomes available. Additional photos below courtesy of @mcfrsPIO:


CSX railroad traffic is stopped between Gaithersburg and Germantown due to fire department activity that involves extrication of an injured hiker who fell 100 ft down an embankment/cliff. Several trains are stopped in both directions as of 4:06pm on Sunday afternoon.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and EMS are with the injured hiker who has suffered non life-threatening injuries. The fall occurred in the area of Peach Crest Drive and Waring Station Rd. in Germantown and extrication will occur soon.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a small plane that crashed while landing at 7940 Airpark Road, the address of the Montgomery County Airpark, at approximately 12:30 on Sunday afternoon, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Units were called to the scene of a kitchen fire at Summer House Santa Monica on the 11800 block of Grand Park Avenue in the Pike & Rose development at approximately 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

The initial report was of a fire in the kitchen of the commercial restaurant that is located beneath the Perseus apartment complex in Pike & Rose. Multiple units arrived to find a fire in the area of a drive and the wall behind the stove in the kitchen of the restaurant.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call at the Rockville Swim Center (355 Martins Ln) due to a reaction caused by the mixing of chemicals. A HazMat crew and various support units were on the scene assisting as the building was evacuated and the swim center was temporary closed. There were no injuries reported.

The City of Rockville has since posted a thank you to MCFRS and announced that the Rockville Swim Center has reopened. “MCFRS for the quick response. Rockville Swim and Fitness Center has fully reopened after the temporary closure of the indoor facility and a brief move outdoors for indoor programming. The center is once again operating on a normal schedule this morning.”


According to a tweet by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer at 11:44pm, one juvenile was arrested and charged with arson (later released to and in custody of parents) for starting a fire at a playground located on Fisher Avenue in Poolesville  at approximately 5:20pm on Sunday.

A paper bag and sandwich container were set on fire underneath the playground equipment, igniting the rubber mulch and damaging much of the playground equipment. There was approximately $75k in damages. The video of the fire can be seen below, courtesy of by Pastries-by-Sarahon Facebook:

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire at a playground on Fisher Ave. in Poolesville at approximately 5:20pm. The fire is now extinguished and no injuries have been reported, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.


A tractor trailer rolled over following a collision between Connecticut Avenue and 355 on the outer loop of I-495 at approximately 6:45am Saturday morning, according to Montgomery Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer. One adult was being evaluated for non life-threatening injuries.

Though the cargo was non-hazardous, a HazMat crew was on the scene to help with the pumping off the remaining fuel and to deal with other fluid spillage. The two right lanes of the outer loop of 495 were closed for an extended period of time on Saturday morning.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services performed an emergency rescue Wednesday evening after a young adult suffered what appeared to be a heat related medical emergency while hiking on Billy Goat Trail A, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.

As of 7:45pm Wednesday evening the patient had been transported via boat to waiting paramedics at a staging area and will likely be transported with Priority 2 injuries.
