Two Teenagers Injured in Early Sunday Morning Crash

Two teenagers suffered non life-threatening injuries following a crash that left the vehicle upside down against a utility pole, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer. Both were transported to a local hospital and were likely unrestrained in the vehicle when the crash occurred.

Report from Sunday morning: WTOP Traffic reports that Norwood Rd remains closed late Sunday morning, between Dr. Bird Rd and Layhill Rd, for emergency utility following a crash that occurred around 12:45am early on Sunday morning. WTOP Traffic reports that Norwood Rd remains closed late Sunday morning, between Dr. Bird Rd and Layhill Rd, for emergency utility following a crash that occurred around 12:45am early on Sunday morning. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for an overturned vehicle into a telephone pole with occupant(s) trapped inside the vehicle. Montgomery Parks to Modify Open Parkways Schedule on Beach Drive

The entirety of Beach Drive in Montgomery County will remain open to vehicles on Fridays beginning Friday, December 16, 2022. Portions will continue to remain (closed to cars) and open to pedestrians and cyclists on Saturdays and Sundays.

Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is modifying its open parkways schedule to reopen portions of Beach Drive to vehicles on Fridays. Beach Drive will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists (closed to vehicles) on Saturdays and Sundays. The change will go into effect on Friday, December 16, 2022. The modification is being made in response to analysis of traffic data showing a substantial increase in vehicle traffic on neighborhood streets on Fridays.

Two Injured in Gaithersburg Collision on Sunday Evening

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a collision with entrapment on Quince Orchard Road and Sioux Lane in Gaithersburg at approximately 5:20pm on Sunday evening, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Upon arrival crews found two vehicles involved in the collision with one adult patient trapped inside of a vehicle. That patient was extricated and taken to a nearby hospital with priority 1 trauma (life-threatening injuries). Another patient was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Some lanes are blocked in the area as of 5:55pm.

Body Found in Car Pulled From Water at Edward’s Ferry (Poolesville)

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called for a report of a car in the water at Edward’s Ferry Rd off of River Rd in Poolesville at approximately 10:30 on Sunday morning, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Rescue crews located a body inside of the vehicle, with the person pronounced dead on the scene.

MCFRS-EMIHS Responds to Call For Injured Restaurant Employee at Fallsgrove Village Center

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) as well as Emergency Medical and Integrated health Services (EMIHS) responded to a call for an injury sustained by an employee of Taipei Tokyo in the Fallsgrove Village Center in Rockville at approximately 6pm on Saturday evening.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a restaurant worker suffered a traumatic injury following a mishap involving the grease trap in the kitchen. The injury has been described as a “penetrating type injury.” Co-workers assisted with the medical emergency prior to the arrival of EMIHS. Upon arrival, medics continued providing care and the adult patient was transported to a local hospital with Priority 2 trauma (serious, but non-life threatening injuries). MCFRS Respond to Report of Fire in Clarksburg on Friday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a possible building fire on the 12100 block of Elm Forest Court, near a Little Seneca Parkway, in Clarksburg on Friday night, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

The fire started on the exterior of the building, likely due to improperly discarded smoking materials, and extended to the building. The building was evacuated s Upon arrival, crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and there were no reported injuries.

Kitchen Fire Displaces Two in Bethesda; No Injuries

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire at a Bethesda home on the 6700 block of Whittier Blvd at approximately 5pm on Thursday evening, according to MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a fire in the kitchen and smoke coming from the roof and two occupants outside of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished and there was little extension aside from smoke that filled the home. “No injuries, no dinner, two people displaced” tweeted Piringer. The stovetop fire caused approximately $30K in damages, in addition to displacing the two occupants.

Driver Strikes and Critically Injures Bicyclist; SB Rockville Pike Closed at Talbott St

A bicyclist has been struck and critically injured by a driver on southbound Rockville Pile (MD-355) near Talbott Street, according to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene and are transporting the bicyclist to the hospital with critical injuries (priority 1 trauma). Improperly Discarded Smoking Materials Revealed As Cause For Monday Morning Fire

In an update to yesterday’s fire on the 3900 block of Denfeld Ave in Kensington, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) have determined that improperly discarded smoking materials and cardboard boxes on the deck were the cause of a fire that caused approximately $60K in damages. One adult suffered minor injuries trying to move the cardboard boxes away from the house.

Monday’s report: Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire in the 3900blk of Denfeld Ave, near Brandywine Street, in Kensington on Monday, November 28 around 8am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire appeared to have started on the exterior (deck) and extended to the house. The fire has been extinguished and all occupants are out of the home. EMS is transporting one adult (civilian) with non-life threatening injuries. We will post an update when more information becomes available.

Portion of Goshen Rd Closed Due to Utility Work and Clean Up Following Sunday Evening’s Plane Crash

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) have issued a Traffic Advisory: “Goshen Rd CLOSED/BLOCKED between Rothbury Dr & Bramblebush Dr near Stewart Town, utility work & cleanup.” Crews are currently working at/near the site of last night’s plane crash into power lines/tower that caused widespread power outages Sunday night.

The pilot and passenger were successfully rescued without incident by EMS personnel using two specialty crane/boom trucks just after midnight on Monday. According to Maryland State Police, the pilot was identified as Patrick Merkle, 65, of Washington, D.C. and the passenger was identified as Jan Williams, 66, of Louisiana. Both were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The plane was also removed from the power lines early Monday morning
