12-Year-Old Identified as Individual Responsible for Multiple Bomb Threats

Montgomery County Police released the following statement from Chief Marcus Jones regarding the person identified in school bomb threats (the statement by MCPD initially listed the incorrect high school, but has since been corrected):

“The person responsible for multiple bomb threats targeting Montgomery Blair High School and Oak View Elementary School has been identified. On October 13, 16, and 23, Montgomery County Public Schools received threats sent via email to Montgomery Blair High School. Similarly, on October 15, Oak View Elementary School was also targeted with a separate email threat. This reckless and dangerous behavior posed a direct threat to the safety and well-being of our schools and students.

MCPD Responding to Reported Bomb Threat at Albert Einstein High School

11:05am UPDATE: Albert Einstein HS has been cleared. Students, faculty, and staff are returning to the building. Once Newport Mill Rd. is open, parents can reunite with their child at the main office of Albert Einstein HS.

Update: Major Crimes Division Investigating Fatal Triple Shooting and Burglary; Identity of Victim Released

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a shooting that occurred on Monday, October 23, 2023. At approximately 10:57 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 14300 block of Fairdale Rd., for the report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers located 22-year-old Rakiy Deinol Gardner, of an unknown address, outside of the residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving attempts, Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene.

A black Mercedes CLA 250 sedan was observed leaving the scene, at a high rate of speed, and collided with an officer responding to the scene in a marked patrol car. The driver of the Mercedes and the officer were transported to area hospitals for evaluation. A second male victim, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, was located a short distance from the scene and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Update per Montgomery County Police: Rashawn Williams has been located safe and unharmed

The Montgomery County Department of Police – Missing Person/Cold Case Unit continues to ask for the public’s assistance in locating Rashawn Williams, a 31-year-old non-verbal male. Williams was last seen boarding a bus at the intersection of Plum Orchard Drive and Cherry Hill Road in Silver Spring. He is 5′ 05,” 150lbs with black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing:

Update: Detectives Investigating Germantown Armed Carjacking; Description of Suspects Released

The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 9:35 p.m., an adult male victim arrived at his home in a 2015 silver BMW and parked it on the driveway. At that point, four suspects parked their unknown vehicle behind the victim, blocking the driveway. Three armed suspects exited the vehicle, pointed their guns at the victim and ordered the victim to get out of the BMW. The victim complied with the suspects’ demands. One of the suspects got in the BMW and left the scene, and the other three suspects drove away in their vehicle.

Per MCPD: “Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Monday, October 23, 2023. At approximately 12:05 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of southbound Columbia Pike at Blackburn Rd., for the report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles.

The preliminary investigation by detectives has revealed that the driver of a white 2019 Ford Escape was stopped in the roadway of the southbound lanes of Columbia Pike at the intersection of Blackburn Rd. For reasons still under investigation, the driver a black 2010 Toyota Corolla, hit the back of the Ford, sending both vehicles through the intersection.

Police Investigating Fatal Democracy Boulevard Collision; Victim’s Identity Released

Per MCPD: “Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District officers are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday, October 21, 2023. The preliminary investigation has revealed that at approximately 6:26 p.m., 60-year-old Byron Jennings was driving a 2012 Kia Sorento westbound on Democracy Blvd prior to Newbridge Drive when he suffered a medical emergency. The Kia then left the roadway, causing a 2015 BMW to collide with the curb and to leave the roadway.

The driver of the BMW sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Jennings, of Lynchburg, VA, was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.” Featured image courtesy of Google Maps.

Police Respond to Armed Carjacking in Germantown

Montgomery County Police responded to an armed carjacking on Monday, October 23, in Germantown. According to police, “At approximately 10 p.m., MCPD responded to the 19400 block of St. Johnsbury Lane for the report of an armed carjacking that just occurred. No injuries were reported. There are no suspects in custody at this time. This is an active and ongoing investigation. More information will be released as is becomes available.”

Update: Three Shot, One Dead After Monday Night Shooting

A suspect is in custody after a triple shooting left one dead and two injured Monday night in Fairland. According to police, “At approximately 10:57 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 14300 block of Fairdale Rd., for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a male, unknown age, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, was located outside and transported to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Student Arrested and Charged as an Adult After Bringing Gun to Walter Johnson High School

According to Montgomery County Police, a 17-year-old Walter Johnson High School student has been arrested and charged as an adult for possession of a firearm. The student, who is a Bethesda resident, was arrested after a witness reported to school security that the student had a gun. Montgomery County Public Schools security team members located the student, conducted a search and located a loaded 9 mm handgun.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Monday, October 23, 2023, Montgomery County Department of Police Community Engagement Officers were dispatched to the school, located in the 6400 block of Rock Spring Drive. Based on the information provided and evidence of the gun, officers arrested the student.

Update: According to Montgomery County Police, “On Monday, October 23, 2023, at approximately 12:05 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Columbia Pike and Blackburn Rd. for the report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles. The preliminary investigation has determined that a white Ford Escape and a black Toyota Corolla collided in the intersection of southbound Columbia Pike and Blackburn Rd. The adult female passenger, of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this fatality. More information will be released when it becomes available, including the name of the deceased, following proper notification of next of kin.”
