Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 1st and 4th District Patrol Investigation Units are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying fraud suspects. On Saturday, June 17, 2023, the victim stated that her credit cards were stolen out of her wallet in the Olney area. The investigation by detectives determined that the suspects fraudulently used the credits cards at several stores in Montgomery Mall.

On Friday, August 11, 2023, a Poolesville victim reported a theft from auto, where the suspects stole the victim’s credit cards and an undetermined amount of cash. The suspects fraudulently used the credits cards at multiple stores in Montgomery Mall.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged 21-year-old Jennifer Abigail Espinoza Orellana, of Gaithersburg, with the homicide of 20-year-old Jose Manuel Zavala Marquez.  On Sunday, September 10, 2023, at approximately 5:51 a.m., 1st District officers responded to the Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in the 9900 block of Medical Center Drive in Rockville for the report of a male who was dropped off with trauma to his body.

The investigation has revealed that Espinoza Orellana had an argument with her boyfriend, Zavala Marquez, at her residence in the 8000 block of Shady Spring Drive in Gaithersburg.  The argument continued outside the residence, where Espinoza Orellana allegedly stabbed Zavala Marquez in the chest with a knife. Espinoza Orellana then placed Zavala Marquez in her vehicle and dropped him off at the hospital, where Zavala Marquez was later pronounced dead.


Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González, chair of the Council’s Economic Development Committee (ECON), and the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board and the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee, will jointly host a community meeting to discuss a proposed police drone program on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, located on 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) will speak about their proposal to use drone technology as first responders to enhance public safety and decrease police response times. The presentations will be in English and Spanish, followed by an open question and answer period. Councilmember Fani-González requested that MCPD make this presentation so that community members have an opportunity to learn more about the technology, ask questions and share feedback.


The 3rd District Investigative Section is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Arminda Williams, a missing 57-year-old female.  Williams was last seen on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at approximately 7:15 p.m., in the 8500 block of Fenton St in Silver Spring. She is 5’3″ tall, 120 lbs., with black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a white collard shirt, black jeans and gold slippers.

The Special Victims Investigations Division is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Eduardo Mendez Rodriguez, a missing 15-year-old. Rodriguez was last seen on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m., near Grazing Way in Gaithersburg. He is 5’2″, 100 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes, and has a tattoo of  “504” on his left hand. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, gray shorts, and white sneakers.

Romera was last seen on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle in Gaithersburg. He is 5’3″, 130 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black pants.

The incident took place following a Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walter Johnson football game, where the three accused teens allegedly assaulted and robbed other teenage victims. A male victim, along with a parent, reported the assault to police the night of the incident. A video of the assault surfaced on social media, drawing the attention of Montgomery County Police. As a result, detectives were able to identify the suspects with the assistance of Montgomery County Public School leaders. This case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and more arrests are expected to be made.


Per MCPD: The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Cold Case Unit has arrested a Prince George’s County man for a rape allegedly committed 23-years-ago and believe there may be more victims.

On July 26, 2000, at approximately 1:55 a.m., two victims walking along Montgomery Village Avenue were approached by a suspect who was armed with a handgun.  The suspect, later identified as 47-year-old James Lorenzo Greene, allegedly robbed the victims of property and raped one of the victims.


Montgomery County Police has announced that during a September 2nd sobriety checkpoint on Columbia Pike and Dustin Rd in Burtonsville, officers from MCPD and allied agencies stopped approximately 507 vehicles and arrested 3 people for driving while impaired. During an August 25 sobriety checkpoint on northbound Georgia Avenue at Weller Road in Wheaton, MCPD stopped approximately 372 vehicles and arrested 5 people for driving while impaired and during an August 18th sobriety checkpoint on northbound Frederick Road at Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg police stopped 565 vehicles and arrested 4 people for driving while impaired.

In July, recreational marijuana use became legal in the state of Maryland and Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones issued the following reminder before the July 4th weekend, “We implore drivers to think of cannabis the same way they think of alcohol. Do not get behind the wheel of a car if you are impaired. Our officers will pull over and arrest anyone they suspect of driving while impaired. Alcohol, marijuana and other drugs can impair the ability to drive because they slow coordination, judgment, and reaction times. Our priority is keeping the roads safe for everyone.”


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged 22-year-old Vincent Adeniyi Oyegbami with an armed carjacking that occurred on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in the 8300 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.

At approximately 5:39 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of an armed carjacking. The investigation has revealed that Oyegbami, armed with a black handgun, stole a white 2017 Mercedes E300 from a male victim and left the scene.  Through the course of the investigation, Oyegbami was identified as the suspect.
