Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a commercial armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Tobacco Cloud store in the 11300 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him. At approximately 10:50 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the location for the report of a commercial armed robbery.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that the suspect entered the store and approached an employee who was working behind the counter. The suspect then threatened the employee with a handgun that he had allegedly concealed on his waistband and demanded money. The employee handed over an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register to the suspect who then exited the store and left the scene.


Per MCPD: The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a body that was recovered from Seneca Creek. On Sunday, July 9, 2023, at approximately 5:41 p.m., 1st District officers, along with officers from Maryland Natural Resources were dispatched to the area of for the report of a body in the Creek.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded and removed the body, and it was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who determined the manner of death to be a homicide.


According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable Christopher Fogleman, a jury has found defendant, Gary Savage, 60, of Tampa, FL, guilty of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter, and two counts of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Crime of Violence.

This stems from an incident on September 3rd, 2021. The defendant drove from where he was living in Tampa, FL to the home of his estranged wife on Baileys Court in Silver Spring, MD. When Savage arrived, his estranged wife and her boyfriend, 44-year-old Whali Shabazz, were getting into a vehicle. Text messages that were admitted into evidence showed Savage knew the two victims were together and expected Shabaz to be there when he arrived. Savage opened fire on both of them, killing Shabaz and continuing to shoot at his estranged wife while she took cover behind another vehicle. She was not injured.


Per MCPD: A 24-year-old Clarksburg man has died following a traffic collision that occurred on Sunday, July 9, 2023. At approximately 6:13 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Frederick Rd. at Milestone Manor Ln., for the report of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

Preliminarily, Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) detectives have determined that the operator of a black 2021 Yamaha MT09 motorcycle was traveling southbound on Frederick Rd. approaching the intersection at Milestone Manor Ln. when for reasons still under investigation, he struck a left turning white 2017 Toyota Prius. The driver of the Prius and a passenger were treated for minor injuries at an area hospital. The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The motorcyclist has been identified as Elijah Isaiah Shand Thweatt, of Clarksburg. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at (240) 773-6620.


Montgomery County Police responded to a stabbing on Monday, July 10. According to MCPD, “at approximately 2:27 a.m., officers responded to the 12000 block of Milton St. in Silver Spring for the report of a stabbing that just occurred. Officers arrived at the scene and located an adult male victim, suffering from a laceration on his arm. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Police are investigating g a fatal collision involving a motorcycle that occurred, Sunday, July 9.  According to MCPD, “At approximately 6:11 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Milestone Manor Ln. and Frederick Rd. for the report of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.


Per MCPD: A 21-year-old Baltimore man was shot and killed inside of a Montgomery County Parking garage early Saturday morning. On July 8, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Montgomery County Department of Police 3rd District officers were dispatched to Montgomery County Public Parking Garage 3 in the 900 block of Silver Spring Avenue, for the report of a shooting that just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers located Kymani Elijah Bailey on the first level of the garage, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


Per MCPD: Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District station responded to a hate/bias incident involving an electronic sign board in a construction zone. On Saturday, July 8, 2023, at approximately 6:47 a.m., the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls about a sign board displaying a racist message near Brookeville Road and George Avenue, in Brookeville.

When patrol officers arrived, they discovered that the sign board, intended for construction safety messages, had been hacked into. Officers were able to erase the message and arranged to have the sign removed.


Montgomery County Police is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown Silver Spring early Saturday morning.  According to MCPD, “At approximately 2:40 a.m., the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls for shots fired inside of Public Parking Garage 3, near Thayer and Silver Spring Avenues.

Third District officers located an adult male on the first level of the parking garage with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.” There is no suspect in custody and MCPD is expected to issue a press releases with additional information later today.


Per MCPD: On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES) located a stolen Lexus IS300 in the 13800 block of Avonshire Drive, in Silver Spring. Two adult males were observed getting into the stolen vehicle and attempted to drive away.  ACES detectives, along with Montgomery County K-9, and 1st and 3rd District Special Assignment Teams (SAT) officers, immediately surrounded the Lexus, taking both occupants into custody without incident.

The occupants of the Lexus have been identified as 20-year-old Jeferson Figueroa of Capitol Heights and 19-year-old Steven Becerra of Cheverly, MD. Through the course of the investigation, ACES detectives learned that the Lexus had been stolen from Prince George’s County.  Within close proximity to the Lexus was a second vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, which was determined to have been stolen from Montgomery County. Figueroa and Becerra were arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. Both face multiple auto-theft related charges. Featured photo courtesy of Google Maps.
