Bethesda native Josh Pitsenberger continued his red-hot start to the season on Saturday, rushing for 142 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries in Yale’s 41–24 victory. The sophomore running back has now scored six touchdowns in just two games, cementing himself as one of the Ivy League’s most dynamic offensive players.

Friday night’s showdown between Quince Orchard and Stone Bridge already had the feel of a big-time football atmosphere. But the presence of two of the Cougars’ most decorated alumni on the sidelines gave the game an even bigger stage.

Two weeks into the season, the picture in Montgomery County volleyball is starting to heat up. Magruder, Quince Orchard, and Sherwood all remain undefeated at 5-0, proving their early-season dominance. Wootton (5-1), Bethesda-Chevy Chase (4-1), and Richard Montgomery (4-1) continue to keep pace as the first chasers in a crowded top tier.

By any measure, this was supposed to be a slugfest… Maryland’s highest ranked public school football team against Virginia’s highest ranked public school football team. Quince Orchard’s latest renewal of its budding interstate rivalry with Stone Bridge (VA) had all the makings of another nail-biter, two perennial powers, both with hard-nosed reputations, clashing in late September. But when the final horn sounded at the Cougar Dome, it was clear there was only one bully left standing.

Bethesda native Josh Pitsenberger powered Yale to a season-opening win on Saturday, rushing for 127 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 28–10 victory over Holy Cross. Pitsenberger scored once in the first quarter, added another in the third, and sealed the game with a final touchdown early in the fourth. His effort marked the first time in more than a decade (2014) that Yale opened a season with both a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver.
