The Montgomery County Council will meet Thursday, May 7 at 9:30 am to review portions of the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 Operating Budget, including multiple Department of Health and Human Services programs, community grants, and nonprofit funding adjustments.
The Montgomery County Council will meet Wednesday, May 6 to continue reviewing the Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget, focusing on housing, transportation, and environmental services, including proposed decreases for housing programs and increases in transportation funding such as expanded bus service and Vision Zero safety efforts.

On Thursday, County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement recognizing J. Craig Venter’s groundbreaking work in decoding the human genome and its role in shaping Montgomery County into a global leader in life sciences, with his legacy continuing through institutions like the J. Craig Venter Institute in Rockville. Venter passed away on Wednesday, April 29.
Montgomery County has been selected by the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to receive a $150,000 grant and technical support to strengthen residents’ financial resilience before and after emergencies.
