On Wednesday, Montgomery County announced it is committing $1.2 million to its FY25 Nonprofit Security Grant program to help protect nonprofit and faith-based organizations at risk of hate crimes. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $15,000 per facility to enhance security measures, with applications due by October 18, 2024.

The second annual Buckets and Beats: Silver Spring Youth Block Party will take place on Friday, Sept. 27, from 2-6 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, featuring a free 3-on-3 basketball tournament, soccer skills station, arts activities, a live DJ, and free food for youth, with the event aimed at fostering positive youth engagement in the community. On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved a resolution led by Vice President Kate Stewart, reaffirming the county’s commitment to protecting reproductive rights and urging residents to support Maryland Ballot Question One, which seeks to codify abortion rights in the state.
