74-Year-Old Man Reported Missing Was Found Dead in Montgomery County Sunday Morning

An alert for a missing Upper Marlboro man, 74-year-old Johnny Bouknight, was put out by Prince George’s County Police shortly after midnight early Sunday morning. The man was last seen on Saturday morning at 10am. At approximately 10:38am on Sunday morning, Bouknight was found dead in his car when Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the 15200 block of Edwards Ferry Rd. for the report of a car in the river. “Preliminary, there is no foul play suspected”, according to Montgomery County and Prince George’s County Police. On Sunday, December 4, 2022, at approximately 10:38 a.m., 1st District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 15200 block of Edwards Ferry Rd. for the report of a car in the river.

Detectives Investigate Friday Morning Homicide; Victim’s Name Released

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, December 2, 2022.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the parking lot of the Summit Hills Apartment complex, in the 8500 block of 16th St., for the report of a shooting that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 29-year-old Nathaniel Potts, of Silver Spring, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

Community Letter Addresses Graffiti With Threatening Language at Kennedy High School

A letter (seen below) was communicated to the John F. Kennedy High School community, in Silver Spring, informing parents and guardians of an incident that occurred at school on Wednesday involving graffiti with threatening language found in the bathroom. Per the letter, the threat is not believed to be credible, but school administrators, the security team, and the community engagement police officer will continue to be visible and on high alert this week. Per MCPD: Members of the Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force will be devoting their full time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses this holiday season. During the week of November 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27, task force officers arrested 32 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI).

Police Investigating Hotel Death on Monday Afternoon

A person was found dead in a hotel room at Hampton Inn and Suites on North Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg at approximately 12:20pm on Monday afternoon. Montgomery County Police is conducting a standard death investigation and as of now, no foul play is suspected, per our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh.

Per MCPD: Members of the Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force will be devoting their full time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses this holiday season. During the week of November 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, task force officers arrested 28 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI).

**It should be noted that the above arrests include only those arrests made by task force officers and do not include the additional arrests made by patrol officers in the performance of their duties. Therefore, the overall number of DUI arrests made by officers during this time period is higher.

Montgomery County Releases Final Recommendations from Audit of the Montgomery County Police Department

Per Montgomery County: Today, County Executive Marc Elrich was joined by Montgomery County Police Department Chief Marcus Jones and Reimagining Public Safety Task Force Member Co-Chair Bernice Mireku-North for a presentation of the final recommendations by Effective Law Enforcement for All (ELEFA) s that offer improvements in officer education, supervision, practices, accountability and public transparency. Since July 2020, ELEFA has partnered with County officials, the MCPD, the Reimagining Public Safety (RPS) Task Force, and local residents to identify, evaluate, and recommend structural and systemic improvements the Department can implement to achieve a shared vision of safe and effective law enforcement in Montgomery County. ELEFA’s audit included evaluation of the Department’s organizational culture, policies, resources, transparency, procedures and operations. The Preliminary Report issued in June 2021 identified a number of opportunities for improvement. Since then, ELEFA has continued its audit of the MCPD, working in close cooperation with MCPD and other constituent organizations.

MCPS: Crossing Guards Needed to Keep Our Community Safe

The Montgomery County Police Department has openings for crossing guards. The position involves helping schoolchildren and other pedestrians cross the street, and providing traffic control at designated crossings. The Montgomery County Police Crossing Guard position involves the safe crossing of school children, other pedestrians, and control of traffic at designated crossings.

Contacts include school children and other pedestrians to issue instructions, such as when to proceed/stop; police officers to report motorists who do not comply with traffic laws; and school officials to report children and motorists who fail to obey instructions of the employee. Direct, routine assistance is provided to pedestrians and/or vehicles at busy intersections. Work may also be performed at other places, such as church crossings, walking field trips, or for special community County-wide events and emergencies. Work is performed independently with periodic checks by police officers at the crossing(s) to which the employee is assigned.

Detectives Investigate Theft; Release Surveillance Photos of Suspects

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 4^th District Patrol Investigations Unit (PIU) are investigating a theft that occurred in the 13000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them (photos below).

On Friday, October 14, 2022, at approximately 2:15 p.m., 4^th District officers responded to the location for the report of a theft that occurred earlier. The initial investigation revealed that sometime between Tuesday, October 11, 2022, and Thursday, October 13, 2022, unknown suspects entered the victim’s residence and stole her wallet and personal property.

Fourth Teen Arrested in Connection with Germantown Homicide

Per MCPD: A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the Friday, April 22, 2022, homicide of 20-year-old Taon Lamont Cline on Gunners Branch Road in Germantown.

During the course of the investigation, Major Crimes detectives discovered evidence connecting 17-year-old, Daylon Windell Miller of Germantown, to the April 22 homicide. Miller was arrested on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
