Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the honorable Judge Harry Storm, defendant Kevin McGuigan, 24, of Rockville, MD, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the death of his mother, Jaclyn McGuigan.
He faces a maximum of life in prison and will be sentenced at a hearing scheduled for January 3rd at 8:30 a.m.
Assistant Police Chief Marc Yamada was off-duty and eating dinner with his family at Bushel and Peck at 12242 Clarksville Pike last Thursday when his server Vanessa Lopez starting having a seizure.
When Yamada noticed Lopez drop the plates and glasses she was holding, he sprung into action. “I knew to try to protect her head from banging itself into the ground more,” he told WJZ Baltimore. “I just tried to keep her calm, reassure her. I kept telling her its okay, I’m here with you. I started pounding on her back and when I did that four or five times, she suddenly gasped and started gurgling little bit and then came around.”
Montgomery County Police Officer Noah A. Leotta passed away on this day in 2015. A week prior, on December 3rd 2015, Leotta was struck by a drunk driver while performing a traffic stop on Rockville Pike. Noah was working that night as part of the department’s Holiday Alcohol Task Force.
The man convicted of killing Officer Noah Leotta was released this past May from prison on good behavior credit.

On Thursday, MCPD released a tweet alerting residents about a nationwide scam involving people playing electric violins in front of local businesses to solicit money. Reports of similar scams have been reported in places like Florida, North Carolina, Texas, and other locations over the past year.
In the statement, MCPD referred to these individuals as “buskers”, which is a person who performs music or other entertainment in the street or another public place for monetary donations, which led to many people thinking the MCPD was targeting actual musicians/street performers.
The Montgomery County Department of Police posted a warning on their social media accounts today alerting residents of a scam involving people pretending to play the violin in front of local businesses to solicit money.
There have been reports in recent months of such scams at the Milestone Center in Germantown and various locations in Rockville.

Charles Moose, who served as Chief of Police for Montgomery County from 1999-2003, passed away unexpectedly on Thanksgiving, according to his wife Sandy Moose.
Moose was Chief of Police during the 2002 sniper attacks and investigation.
