Few local establishments have as storied a past as the Holiday Inn Gaithersburg, located off of I-270’s exit 11 on the corner of 355 and Montgomery Village Ave. It once made national headlines for an audacious offering that was a symbol of 1970s opulence– a single suite priced at an astronomical $1,400 a night.
The Montgomery County Council will hold a series of public hearings in September on new legislative items and planning proposals, including two hearings on the University Boulevard Corridor Plan (Sept. 10 in Silver Spring and Sept. 16 in Rockville), as well as hearings on a proposed parking ban in bikeways and a $100,000 transportation study appropriation for the Clarksburg to Montgomery Village Corridor.
On Sunday evening, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Catherine Ashley Hoggle, 38, of Clarksburg, had been indicted by a Montgomery County Grand Jury on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children, Sarah and Jacob Hoggle. Montgomery County is informing residents that several federal clean energy tax credits, including those for electric vehicles (EVs), will end earlier than expected under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” signed on July 4. However, EV buyers can still qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits on new vehicles and up to $4,000 on used ones if they take delivery by September 30, 2025, with additional incentives for charging equipment available through June 30, 2026. Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich led a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday celebrating the opening of the Residences at Forest Glen, a fully affordable housing development that replaces an aging property with 189 modern rental units near the Forest Glen Metro station. Elrich emphasized the County’s $30.8 million investment as part of a broader strategy to preserve affordability and prevent displacement, joined by Councilmembers Natali Fani-González and Andrew Friedson, state housing officials, and nonprofit developer Montgomery Housing Partnership.

An active shooter report at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda this morning was quickly resolved after the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) determined the individual was carrying a plastic training rifle. The incident, which prompted a significant police response, was found to have no malicious intent, and the individual is not being charged.
Update by MCPD states “the subject was carrying a plastic training rifle. There was no malicious intent, and the adult male is not being charged.”
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded to reports of an active shooter situation on the 8900 block of Rockville Pike earlier today, the address of Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda. Officers from the 2nd District were dispatched at approximately 10:24 a.m. after receiving the alarming call.
Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) 6th District are currently investigating a stabbing incident that occurred near the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village/Gaithersburg. The call reporting the incident was received by authorities at 9:04 am Thursday morning.
