On Wednesday, Sept. 4, the second season of girls’ flag football in Maryland will commence with the Kick-Off Classic – a 26-game slate across eight different statewide locations. A ceremony will be held at each of the eight locations, while Ravens Cheerleaders, Poe and Legends, including Femi Ayanbadejo, Bryan Hall, Trevor Pryce, Ray Rice and Torrey Smith, will be on hand at several of the game sites to take in the action. The Washington Commanders will also support the initiative with appearances from their spirit squad, legends and mascot at each of the four Montgomery County locations (specific names and locations not available yet for Commanders).

2024 is not only an Olympic year, but also a World Championship year for the sport of Acrobatic Gymnastics. This summer at the 2024 USA Acrobatic Gymnastics National Championships and World Team Trials in Minneapolis (the same week and location of the Artistic Gymnastics Olympic Trials), USA Gymnastics selected two groups from Rockville’s Xtreme Acro to represent Team USA.

Montgomery County and Instacart have launched “MC Groceries,” a first-of-its-kind initiative providing nearly 600 food-insecure families with monthly stipends for online grocery shopping, aimed at increasing food security and combating childhood hunger across the County.
MCPS has announced that September 4, 2024 is opening day for the inaugural girls’ flag football season. All 25 MCPS high schools will field teams and participate in opening day festivities that will be conducted at four locations across Montgomery County. The Good Counsel community is celebrating beloved staff member, Mario Gonzalez, as he turns 70 years old and begins his 37th year working as part of the school’s maintenance staff. The school is hosting ‘Mario Fest’ on Friday, September 13th at 6pm to celebrate him and has announced the Spirit of Mario Scholarship drive to benefit a current Good Counsel student who embodies the spirit of Mario and contributes to the Good Counsel community.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will host 11 Community Conversations throughout September and October to gather public input on the Fiscal Year 2026 Operating Budget, with sessions offered in multiple languages and available online for remote participation.
