Montgomery Soccer Inc (MSI) has announced the formation of the MSI Golden Knights, a new semi-professional soccer team in Montgomery County. Per MSI: Soccer enthusiasts and sports fans across Montgomery County, MD, have a reason to celebrate as Montgomery Soccer Inc (MSI) makes its grand debut as the area’s newest semi-professional soccer team, the Golden Knights. Founded with a vision to elevate the local soccer scene and foster a spirit of passion and excellence, MSI is set to redefine the sports landscape in the region.

The MSI Golden Knights roster will be a carefully curated mix of homegrown talent and seasoned athletes, chosen not only for their on-field prowess but also for their dedication to community engagement. The team’s diverse composition will embody the essence of Montgomery County and bring fans together from all walks of life.


At approximately 10:09 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers responded to the 14000 block of Castle Blvd. In Fairland for the report of a shooting. 

According to police, “the preliminary investigation has revealed that a shooting occurred at the location. An adult male was struck in the arm and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Approximately 3 apartments were also struck by the rounds. There are suspects in custody. The scene is secured. There is no current threat to the public.”


At approximately 10:04 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers responded to the 11400 block of Georgia Ave. in Wheaton for the report of a carjacking that just occurred. The

MCPS Athletics has announced that it is excited to launch an enhanced sports medicine program for the 2023-24 school year. Included in the program are full-time, 12-month certified athletic trainers in each high school and a partnership with MedStar Health.

Athletic trainers have been hired and have started working in all 25 MCPS high schools. A coordinator of health and safety, Mr. Shawn Hendi, has also been hired. Athletic trainers, now MCPS employees, will provide streamlined and enhanced care for student-athletes and across the program.


A Tornado Watch has been issued for Montgomery County for Monday, August 7th, from 1:20 pm until 9:00 pm. Be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued.

Earlier today, the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security stated, “The @NWSSPC has just upgraded our area to a level 4 out of 5 for severe weather threat. This is very rare. Please pay attention to weather watching & warnings today. Have a plan ready to quickly seek shelter in a sturdy building away from windows, if warnings are issued today.  To prepare for today’s weather: Charge battery-powered devices; fuel your vehicle; secure any loose outdoor furniture; locate your flashlight; and make sure you have some basic supplies available in case you lose power for a day or two.”


Per Montgomery County: Three-time Grammy® Award-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater will headline the 18th annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring. The free festival will take place from 3-10 p.m. Bridgewater will take the mainstage at 8:30 p.m. Veterans Plaza is located at the corner of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street, adjacent to the Silver Spring Civic Building.

The Silver Spring Jazz Festival is a free event. Restaurants featuring a variety of cuisines surround the festival site. Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation and to bring a blanket and/or low back lawn chairs for seating. The festival site is a short walk from the Silver Spring Metro Station.

Per NWSSPC: “Numerous severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds will be the primary threat, some of these winds may become locally destructive. Additionally, a few tornadoes and large hail are possible. Isolated to scattered instances of flooding are also possible.”


At approximately 11:22 p.m., Montgomery Counry Police responded to the 12700 block of Sesame Seed Court for the report of a shooting.

According to police, the preliminary investigation has revealed that shots were fired near the location and one of the rounds struck the foot of a 12 year old female who was inside her residence. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries. No suspects in custody. The scene is secured.


Per the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office: “In order to carry out an appropriately thorough investigation and conduct untainted interviews, the Independent Investigations Division (IID) is delaying the release of the body-worn camera footage from the Montgomery County Police officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 22, 2023.

A key component of IID investigations is witness interviews. While typically the IID is able to interview relevant witnesses within 14 days so that the video may be released, that timeline cannot always be met. To ensure witness interviews are not compromised by their viewing of external evidence, the release of the body-worn camera footage will be delayed. Once the release of the video will not compromise the investigation, the IID will make public the body-worn camera footage on its video channel.


Montgomery County Rec mourns the loss of former director, Gregory Bayor. In a career spanning 39 years, Greg provided thousands upon thousands of children and adults with quality programs and special events as Director of Recreation & Parks for the Cities of Rockville, MD; Elgin, IL; Baltimore, MD and Montgomery County, MD, culminating with his retirement in late 2017 from the City of Tampa after restructuring the Department, beginning with the redesign of the department logo.

He successfully guided the construction of the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. Some other projects included the renovation of the Roy Jenkins Pool; the creation of Water Works Park & the innovative Perry Harvey Park. He brought the Cal Ripken,Sr Foundation to Tampa to create two parks for At Risk Youth – Baseball at Sulphur Springs & a Multi-Purpose Field at the Glazer Family Field at NFL Y.E.T. Center.
