Montgomery County Council committees are scheduled to meet January 28 through January 30 to review a range of issues, including supplemental funding for a proposed Public Safety Joint Operations Center, immigrant protection legislation, the creation of the Viva White Oak Development District, and an overview of the Fiscal Year 2027–2032 Capital Improvements Program.

Montgomery County activated the Department of Transportation’s Storm Operations Center at 9 pm Saturday, January 24, as a winter storm moved through the region, with crews beginning to plow primary roads at 4 am using more than 500 pieces of equipment and continuing operations throughout the day as snowfall is expected to taper off by early afternoon.

Montgomery County Public Schools announced that all MCPS-sponsored activities may continue today but are expected to conclude by 9 pm due to anticipated winter weather. All MCPS-sponsored activities and community use of school facilities are canceled for Sunday, January 25, as significant snowfall is expected to create hazardous travel conditions. (more…)


The Maryland Attorney General’s Office has identified the man who died following a police response in Silver Spring last month, along with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) officers involved, as an independent investigation into the incident continues. MCPD had issued a statement in response to the AG’s office investigation.

A Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of peeping tom and indecent exposure incidents in Gaithersburg and surrounding areas, with detectives warning there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
