At the restoration center, a team of multidisciplinary professionals will include nurses, licensed mental health and addiction professionals, peer specialists and resource navigators. The center will provide a variety of behavioral health services including triage, crisis stabilization and warm hand-off referrals to appropriate services.  The center will operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.


Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will host a Dental Health Fair at the Long Branch Library from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. The Dental Health Fair will provide free oral health screenings for all ages (from young children to older adults) and general information about dental care, hygiene and dental services. The Long Branch Library is located at 8800 Garland Ave. in Silver Spring. No registration is required to attend.

The Dental Health Fair is part of the Narratives and Medical Education (NAME) Project. NAME is an experimental National Institutes of Health funded project that brings together different disciplines focusing on the role of racism in health care, specifically in dental care disparities. The free screenings will be provided by students of the Dental Hygiene Program at the University of Maryland (UMD) School of Dentistry.


Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County will hold a career fair for job seekers 18-and-over from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the Silver Spring Civic Building. The County is searching for candidates to fill more than 30 types of available positions across a variety of industries. The Silver Spring Civic Building is located at 1 Veterans Place in Silver Spring. Registration is not required to attend, but attendees are encouraged to register in advance at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/JOBFAIR.

The following County departments will be onsite at the event to discuss available opportunities and conduct same-day interviews for select positions, make on-the-spot offers or extend offers within 30 days after the event:


Per Montgomery County: Today, Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein informed the County Executive’s Office of his decision to leave his position after more than 30 years as a firefighter in Montgomery County. Chief Goldstein’s last day with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service will be Friday, June 30, 2023.

“Chief Goldstein has given this County so much since he first started with the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department in 1987,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We have leaned on his expertise and skills as a leader and watched the department grow under his leadership. Over the past few years, Chief Goldstein has worked with me and other County leaders to make this a smooth transition and I thank him for his service to the men and women of MCFRS and the people of this County.”


MoCo native Jordan Hawkins leads the #4 seed UConn Huskies (30-8, 13-7 Big East) against the #5 seed San Diego State Aztecs (32-6, 15-3 MWC) at 9:20 pm tonight in the NCAA Tournament National Championship.

Jordan Hawkins averages three made 3-pointers per game for the Huskies, averaging 16.2 points per game with a 38.6% three point shooting percentage. Hawkins is a Montgomery County native who attended Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown and Gaithersburg High School for his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to DeMatha. His UConn Huskies enter the game at 7.5 point favorites.


Giacomo’s, a Neapolitan-style mobile brick oven pizzeria that has operated in various places across MoCo, has announced that it will cease operations at the end of this month. The pizzeria was founded by Giacomo Sciuto, an MCPS history teacher and son of a Sicilian immigrant who came to the country in 1988. According to an announcement made via social media, Giacomo’s will continue with all of its April events and will post that schedule later this week. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project next week to improve several state roads in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Crews will remove line stripping and pavement markings and apply a micro-surface coating that protects and extends the life of the asphalt. Weather permitting, work will be complete by early summer.

Work will take place weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and overnights, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During work hours, motorists can expect lane shifts and single lane closures guided by a flagging operation. The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience and asks motorists to be patient and stay alert in the work zones. The locations in Montgomery County are as follows:


25 student-athletes from five different Montgomery County  high schools are currently going through leadership training with Adam Bradley’s Lead ‘Em Up to prepare for the Student-Athlete Mentor Program (SAMP), created by Joseph Hooks and the 480 Club.

The participating student-athletes had to interview in order to be hired for the stipend, which is fully funded by the Montgomery County Department of Health & Humans Services (DHHS). After the student-athletes go through an 8-part Lead ‘Em Up training, they will begin to serve as mentors for the program.


On Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can drop off unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs, as Montgomery County participates in #NationalPrescriptionDrugTakeBackDay. Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Takoma Park Police will also be participating.

This is a safe, free and anonymous opportunity to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs and is a part of a national effort to prevent the increasing problems of prescription drug abuse occurring nationwide.
