WHEATON, Md. –  Montgomery Parks(opens in a new tab), part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, invites the public to a free, virtual installment of the Parks Speaker Series(opens in a new tab) featuring Michael Wiggins, director of education and community engagement for Little Island(opens in a new tab), on December 7, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Wiggins will share insights into the development, execution, and vision of the recently opened innovative public space, during the free virtual webinar.


Springbrook Head Football Coach Dustin Jeter has been named the Washington Football Team’s High School Coach of the Week

The High School Coach of the Week program is a league-wide initiative designed to recognize area high school football coaches who continuously demonstrate hard work and dedication to their football programs, the health and safety of their players, and who make a difference in their communities. Each coach chosen throughout the high school football season will receive a $2,000 donation from the Washington Football Charitable Foundation to their football program.


The Montgomery County Varsity Volleyball Coaches have decided on their 2021 All-County teams.  Each varsity coach gets one vote in determining the County Player of the Year, 1st Team-All County, 2nd Team All-County and Honorable Mention.  Congratulations to all the girls selected this year!

On Thursday, MCPD released a tweet alerting residents about a nationwide scam involving people playing electric violins in front of local businesses to solicit money. Reports of similar scams have been reported in places like Florida, North Carolina, Texas, and other locations over the past year.

In the statement, MCPD referred to these individuals as “buskers”, which is a person who performs music or other entertainment in the street or another public place for monetary donations, which led to many people thinking the MCPD was targeting actual musicians/street performers.


The Montgomery County Department of Police posted a warning on their social media accounts today alerting residents of a scam involving people pretending to play the violin in front of local businesses to solicit money.

There have been reports in recent months of such scams at the Milestone Center in Germantown and various locations in Rockville.
